In November 2022, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released a draft report on updates to the social cost of carbon to incorporate scientific advancements into estimates used for regulatory purposes and to seek public comment. As a part of getting comments on the proposal, EPA engaged 7 independent expert reviewers to review the methodology and offer feedback on several charge questions posed to the group. In May 2023, the peer reviewers released their findings and recommendations on ways to improve the development of estimates going forward. The original EPA report, the charge questions to the peer reviewers and the reviewers comments can be found here https://ow.ly/2xlu50PjbB4

📢 Investmed Project INTRODUCING: Sustain Egypt Think Tank (SET)

Sustain Egypt Think Tank (SET) is a sustainability consultancy project under EJADA. Sustain Egypt Think Tank is an online Strategic Sustainability Knowledge hub, consisting of:
- An online Strategic Sustainability Knowledge hub, and
- A platform for collecting and analysing accurate data on the business implementation of sustainability goals (mainly related to water, energy, circular economy, green economy, and social responsibility).
SET provides an applied knowledge database for researchers, and sustainability departments in various companies, which motivates entities of all sizes to apply sustainability concepts professionally in their businesses at affordable prices.

With the INVESTMED subgrant, EJADA aims to establish a cloud-based think tank (SET) containing a database of case studies applying sustainable development goals. They will begin by creating a website and a mobile app to publish the results of case studies in Egypt and the MENA region. Their project will contribute to reducing carbon emissions and pollution, improving energy and resource efficiency, avoiding the loss of biodiversity and environmental and ecosystem degradation, and promoting economic growth and social inclusion in green-blue economy sectors by supporting businesses with applied knowledge in these sectors.

By 2050, 50 - 700 million people worldwide are likely to be forced to migrate due to a combination of climate change and land degradation i.

Scenarios for the EU indicate an increasing vulnerability of soils to desertification throughout this century. Climate change may result in structurشal food shortages by 2050 as many areas become too hot and dry to produce food while fertile soils along rivers and seas may be flooded due to sea-level rise. A loss of only 0.1 % of carbon from degraded soils emitted into the atmosphere is equivalent to carbon emissions of 100 million extra cars on the road. Healthy soils in contrast are major carbon “storehouses” and essential for mitigating emissions from climate greenhouse gases: more carbon resides in soil than in the atmosphere and all plant life combined ii.
