Did you know? According to the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) global total installed capacity for floating solar increased to approx. 2.5 GW by the end of 2020 and technology deployment is growing rapidly. Untapped potential equally lies in developed and developing countries. One focus is on a combination with hydro power plants where floating solar panels are installed on the water surface of reservoirs and/or on the dam surface using the same transmission infrastructure to evacuate electricity. Those hybrid plants can benefit from higher panel efficiency through the cooling effect of the water while reducing water evaporation as a result of the shading provided by the PV panels: a win-win situation.

The Seed Capital Assistance Facility (SCAF) is continuously looking to onboard new partners and thereby promoting sustainable development, economic growth, poverty reduction and climate change mitigation in Sub Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia.

Clean and sustainable farming needs well informed producers 🌱

In cooperation with Faces Microfinanzas, Insotec y Financiera Fundeser, the technical assistance program organized by the GLS AI-Microfinance Fund and FS Impact Finance trained more than 160 farmers and 75 staff members on the topic of pesticides management. Each training focused on the specific products and challenges of the local farmers, from coffee to cacao to mango production.

Fifth anniversary of our Microfinance Fund!

We started in December 2015 with EUR 21 million and ten partner MFIs in five countries. Today we manage EUR 191 million and are proud being invested in 71 MFIs from 36 countries. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this great achievement!

We are partners of Svatantra Microfin Pvt. Ltd since 2019. Today, this MFI serves over 1,000,000 rural customers across 14 states in .
In the top photo below (pre-COVID), our investment manager Utpal Chakraborty is visiting, along with Svantantra team (Sahil, Chinmay and Sameer), a group in Man village, Maharasthra. The women are all micro entrepreneurs and dairy farmers.
Currently the GLS AI-Microfinance Fund counts 5 investees in India.
