The award aims to support young researchers advocating for crucial values in higher education and democracy, including academic freedom, institutional autonomy, student and staff participation in governance, and public responsibility.

If you are an early-career researcher in the European Higher Education Area and the topic of your research connects directly to fundamental values in higher education, then apply by 22 June.

Deutschland zieht Talente aus aller Welt an!

Laut einer aktuellen UNESCO-Studie ist Deutschland das viertbeliebteste Zielland für internationale Studierende – nach den USA, Großbritannien und Australien. Für Studierende aus Europa ist es sogar die erste Wahl.

Gründe dafür sind unter anderem englischsprachige Studienangebote, die hohe Technologiestärke sowie vergleichsweise niedrige Studien- und Lebenshaltungskosten.

Für Deutschland ist das eine sehr gute Nachricht: Internationale Studierende tragen wesentlich zur Fachkräftesicherung bei. Viele von ihnen entscheiden sich für MINT-Fächer und erwerben Qualifikationen für Berufsfelder mit hohem Fachkräftebedarf.

Mit Stipendien, Förderprogrammen und der Campus-Initiative Internationale Fachkräfte unterstützen wir Hochschulen dabei, internationale Studierende und Absolvent:innen auf den deutschen Arbeitsmarkt vorzubereiten und langfristige Perspektiven zu schaffen.

UKUDLA Summer School 2026: Building Resilient Food Systems Together

The UKUDLA Summer School launched this week at the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart! This event combines the ACRIUC Symposium on agroecology and climate resilience with the CSH Summer School on advanced field monitoring using AI and remote sensing.

Participants are working together to address a critical question: How can we create sustainable food systems in the face of climate change?

Prof. Dr Andreas Pyka, Marina Schuster (BMFTR), and Maja Clausen (BMLEH) welcomed attendees, emphasising UKUDLA’s mission and the DAAD’s key role in supporting it. The project, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, BMFTR, BMLEH, NRF, and DSTI, fosters early-career researchers and international collaboration to shape the future of food systems.

Erasmus+: Ein Programm, das Leben verändert 🌍

Stell dir vor, du studierst für ein Semester in Padua, lernst eine neue Sprache, knüpfst internationale Freundschaften und kommst mit einem ganz neuen Blick auf die Welt zurück. Genau das ermöglicht Erasmus+ – und das schon seit 1987! Über eine Million Studierende aus Deutschland haben diese Erfahrung bereits gemacht, und jedes Jahr kommen 60.000 neue dazu.

Quantum computing: Sooner than you think? 🚀

Michael Lachner, an alumnus of the DAAD’s Konrad Zuse Schools of Excellence in AI, is convinced: Quantum computers will be market-ready faster than most expect. His Munich-based startup, Aqarios, is already developing software to solve complex optimisation problems, bridging the gap between today’s classical AI and the quantum future.

His platform lets companies start with advanced algorithms now and seamlessly transition to quantum computing later. "Businesses need to prepare today," Lachner warns, "or risk repeating the same mistakes they made with AI after the ChatGPT moment."

Germany has a real shot at leading in quantum computing, thanks to strong public investment, top-tier research, and networks like the Zuse Schools. And Lachner? He’s proud to build his vision in Munich.

Instead of going straight to the bin, so-called Pfandflaschen are often collected, or brought along on the next supermarket trip – to get the deposit back that you paid for when you bought the bottle.

It is one small example of how recycling and waste separation are part of everyday life in Germany.

🌐 Shape the future of European research

As part of the new DAAD programme “Future Network Weimar Triangle: Science for Europe”, we invite doctoral researchers and postdoctoral fellows to become part of a European research network connecting Germany, France, and Poland.

At the heart of the programme is the development of long-term scientific collaboration cross borders. Participants can undertake research stays in Germany ranging from three to twenty-four months, contribute to interdisciplinary working groups, and build lasting academic connections throughout Europe. Together, we are shaping the future of research in Europe.

Look forward to working on future-oriented topics such as climate-neutral energy and
sustainable mobility, artificial intelligence, digitalisation and microelectronics, European
security and resilience, as well as biotechnology and the medicine of the future.

Applications are open until 15 June 2026.
