DAAD The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the world's largest funding organisation, supporting the international exchange of students and scholars.

„Schutz bieten, Hoffnung zurückgeben, neue Perspektiven eröffnen.“

Mit diesen Worten beschrieb DAAD-Generalsekretär Dr. Kai Sicks die Kernidee des Hilde Domin-Programms bei der Jubiläumsveranstaltung in Berlin.

Gemeinsam mit Vertreterinnen und Vertretern aus Hochschulen, Politik und Zivilgesellschaft hat der DAAD das fünfjährige Bestehen des Programms gewürdigt.

🎓 Das Hilde Domin-Programm unterstützt weltweit gefährdete Studierende und Promovierende dabei, ein Studium oder eine Promotion in Deutschland aufzunehmen oder fortzusetzen. Seit dem Programmstart 2021 wurden insgesamt 285 Stipendien an Geförderte aus 24 Ländern vergeben, darunter Afghanistan, Iran, Belarus, die Türkei, Syrien und Myanmar. Klimawandel, globale Gesundheitsfragen, der Weg hin zu nachhaltigen Städten – die Herausforderungen unserer Zeit sind komplex. Und sie stellen auch neue Anforderungen an Hochschullehre und Forschung in Europa.

In europäischen Hochschulallianzen entstehen dafür neue Formate: Studierende arbeiten an konkreten Fragestellungen, oft gemeinsam mit Partnern aus Wirtschaft oder Gesellschaft und über Ländergrenzen hinweg.

Dabei geht es nicht nur um Theorie, sondern auch um die Arbeit an realen Aufgaben und Projekten. Ideen werden entwickelt, Ansätze getestet und weitergedacht – mit Bezug zur Praxis.

Für Studierende bedeutet das mehr Zusammenarbeit, neue Perspektiven und die Möglichkeit, sich schon im Studium mit aktuellen Herausforderungen auseinanderzusetzen.

Damit deutsche Hochschulen, die Teil einer solchen Allianz sind, ihre Zusammenarbeit in Europa weiter ausbauen und neue Formate in Studium und Lehre erproben können, haben wir die vom Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt finanzierte nationale Initiative „Europäische Hochschulnetzwerke (EUN)“ ins Leben gerufen.

Wer für ein Studium nach Deutschland kommt, beginnt seine „Student Journey" oft lange vor der Einschreibung, nämlich mit Recherche, Bewerbung und vielen offenen Fragen.

Eine DAAD-Befragung unter Hochschulmitarbeitenden zeigt: Internationalisierung ist als strategisches Ziel etabliert.

Der Beratungsbedarf beginnt aber bereits vor dem Studienantritt und belastet bestehende Strukturen zunehmend. Hochschulen sehen klar das Potenzial digitaler Angebote, um internationale Studierende früh zu unterstützen. Was häufig fehlt, sind die Ressourcen für den Ausbau.

Interested in AI – and wondering how to specialise during your master’s? Do you have excellent grades?

Apply by 15 June to join the interdisciplinary relAI MSc programme!

The Konrad Zuse School of Excellence in Reliable AI (relAI) offers funding and an additional interdisciplinary AI programme for outstanding master’s students at Technische Universität München - TUM (TUM) or LMU Klinikum (LMU). Applications are welcome only from excellent German and international students enrolled in, or in the process of enrolling in, master’s programmes in AI-related disciplines.

Research areas include the mathematical and algorithmic foundations of reliable AI, learning and instruction, algorithmic decision-making, medicine and healthcare, and robotics and interacting systems.

As a selected relAI master’s student, you can expect:

✅ Cross-sectional training, professional development courses, and opportunities for practical experience through internships, project groups, and guided research

✅ Funding of up to 992 euros per month

✅ Travel grants

What you need to apply:

✅ Excellent bachelor’s degree

✅ Interest in working on the topic of reliable AI, covering aspects such as safety, security, privacy, and responsibility

Von Flensburg bis Konstanz: Hochschulen in ganz Deutschland sind Teil der Europäischen Hochschulallianzen!
Insgesamt beteiligen sich 75 deutsche Hochschulen an diesen Netzwerken: 67 in EU-geförderten Allianzen und 8 in Allianzen mit einem „Seal of Excellence“.

Die Allianzen verbinden Hochschulen europaweit und schaffen neue Formen der Zusammenarbeit – in Studium, Lehre und im Austausch mit Gesellschaft und Regionen.

Unser Begleitprogramm „Europäische Hochschulnetzwerke (EUN) – nationale Initiative“ unterstützt deutsche Hochschulen in diesen Allianzen aus Mitteln des Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt. „Wissenschaft weltoffen kompakt“ – jetzt mit allen Daten zur Internationalisierung auf einen Blick!

Die internationale Studierendenmobilität ist auf Rekordniveau: 7,3 Millionen Studierende weltweit und über 402.000 internationale Studierende in Deutschland zeigen, wie dynamisch der globale Austausch heute ist. Doch wie lassen sich diese Entwicklungen und weitere Trends der Internationalisierung systematisch erfassen und auswerten?

Die neue Kompaktausgabe von „Wissenschaft weltoffen“, herausgegeben von DAAD und DZHW, wurde grundlegend überarbeitet und bietet nun alle sechs Themenbereiche der Hauptausgabe – von Studierendenmobilität bis zu Internationalisierungsstrukturen an Hochschulen. Trotz des erweiterten Inhalts ist die Publikation nur vier Seiten länger und bleibt damit übersichtlich und handlich.

Call for applications open! 📣

The “Fundamental Academic Values Award” call for applications is now open until 22 June 2026!

The award aims to support young researchers advocating for crucial values in higher education and democracy, including academic freedom, institutional autonomy, student and staff participation in governance, and public responsibility.

If you are an early-career researcher in the European Higher Education Area and the topic of your research connects directly to fundamental values in higher education, then you are eligible for application. Winners of the three awards will receive a monetary prize and will be invited to present their research during a public event.

The award is funded by the Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt.

Artificial intelligence is already part of everyday life in higher education – and European University Alliances are using it to rethink collaboration.

One example: in the EU on AIR alliance, the “MyAI University” is creating a virtual campus where students and researchers work together using avatars and chatbots. As these formats evolve, questions of transparency, responsibility, and the role of AI in academic work are built directly into teaching and guidelines.

AI is also opening up new possibilities in research: within the INGENIUM alliance, an AI-based platform helps identify suitable partners for collaboration across Europe.

By combining technological innovation with shared standards and perspectives, the alliances are developing new ways of working, learning, and cooperating across borders.
