DAAD The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the world's largest funding organisation, supporting the international exchange of students and scholars.

House rules for the DAAD's social media presence:

• We use our social media presence to present DAAD offers and those of our partners as well as for dialogue with our community. We look forward to a wide range of contacts and lively use of this service.
• All users of our social media pages are called upon to engage in dialogue in an open, friendly manner and with courtesy, respect and mutual consideration.

Then don't miss your chance to apply for the "DAAD SDG Alumni Project: Knowledge and Practice for Development" for Germany Alumni from South and Southeast Asia in the framework of AGRITECHNICA ASIA 2027 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

🏆 Der 1. Platz des Campus-Preises Internationale Fachkräfte 2026 in der Kategorie „Onboarding und Studienvorbereitung“ steht fest!

Mit der Maßnahme „Peer-to-Peer 2.0 – curricular verankerte Integrationsbegleitung“ gewinnt die Technische Hochschule Würzburg-Schweinfurt den 1. Platz.

Das Besondere: Studierende der Sozialen Arbeit organisieren ein Buddy-Programm und ein Sprachcafé als Teil einer Lehrveranstaltung. So werden internationale Studierende beim Ankommen in Deutschland unterstützt und kommen früh mit lokalen Studierenden in Kontakt. Gleichzeitig sammeln die Peer-Teams praktische Erfahrungen in einem realen Handlungsfeld.

Ein Modell, das Integration dauerhaft absichert und zugleich Lehre und Hochschulpraxis miteinander verbindet.

Wir gratulieren der Technische Hochschule Würzburg-Schweinfurt herzlich zum 1. Platz! 💐

🌍🤝 „Außenpolitik entsteht auch aus der Begegnung zwischen Menschen.“ Mit diesen Worten begrüßte Bundesaußenminister Dr. Johann Wadephul die 106 neuen DAAD-Stipendiatinnen und -Stipendiaten aus 39 Ländern im Europasaal des Auswärtigen Amtes in Berlin. Sie kommen nach Deutschland, um zu lernen, bringen aber auch eigene Erfahrungen, Ideen und Perspektiven mit. Davon profitiert auch Deutschland – denn internationaler Austausch lebt von Begegnungen und gegenseitigem Lernen.

💬 Dr. Birgit Klüsener, Direktorin der Stipendienabteilung des DAAD, betonte: Ein Stipendium ist mehr als finanzielle Unterstützung. Es bedeutet Anerkennung, Vertrauen und die Aufnahme in ein internationales Netzwerk. So entstehen nicht nur beeindruckende Lebensläufe, sondern auch Geschichten der Zusammenarbeit und Verständigung.

💡 Über den Weg von der Schule über die Hochschule in den Beruf diskutierten MdB Jürgen Coße, Dr. Sonja Kreibich (Auswärtiges Amt), Dr. Sebastian Rohde (Unternehmer) und Dr. Sergio Delgado (DAAD-Alumnus und Ingenieur), moderiert von Dr. Katja Lasch (DAAD).

🌱 Neugierig bleiben, Horizonte erweitern, Fragen stellen, Fehler wagen und eigene Ideen verwirklichen: Das waren zentrale Ratschläge des Podiums. Neben Mut und Ausdauer braucht es aber auch Menschen, mit denen man Erfahrungen teilen kann. Ein soziales Umfeld aufzubauen und Freundschaften zu schließen, ist mindestens so wichtig wie der akademische und berufliche Weg. Social Media kann persönliche Begegnungen nicht ersetzen.

🎓 Zum Abschluss erhielten die neuen Stipendiatinnen und Stipendiaten ihre Urkunden und wurden in der internationalen DAAD-Gemeinschaft willkommen geheißen.

✨ Wir wünschen ihnen einen wunderbaren Start in Deutschland, viel Neugier, Mut und bereichernde Begegnungen!

Neue DAAD-Podcast-Folge: Das Hilde Domin-Programm: Schutz für bedrohte Studierende

Wissenschaftsfreiheit ist ein Grundpfeiler unserer Gesellschaft, doch für viele Studierende und Promovierende in Krisenregionen ist sie alles andere als selbstverständlich. Die neue Folge unseres Podcasts „Wissen. Welt. Wandel.“ widmet sich dem Hilde Domin-Programm des DAAD, das seit 2021 vom Auswärtiges Amt finanziert wird. Das Programm ermöglicht es bedrohten Studierenden und Promovierenden, ihre akademische Laufbahn in Deutschland sicher fortzusetzen. Bisher haben bereits über 300 Geförderte ein Stipendium erhalten.

In dieser Folge sprechen wir mit Nyein Chan May, einer Geförderten aus Myanmar, die an der Universität Trier Internationale Beziehungen und Diplomatie studiert. Sie berichtet von ihrem Engagement für Demokratie und Wissenschaftsfreiheit sowie ihrem Weg nach Deutschland. Philipp Effertz, der im DAAD das Referat für Sonderprojekte und Programme für gefährdete Studierende und Forschende leitet, erklärt die Ziele des Programms und die Rolle der deutschen Hochschulen.

Sie haben bereits an einer deutschen Universität gelehrt? Dann können Sie mit unserem Lektorenprogramm für eine bestimmte Zeit im Ausland unterrichten – meist zwei bis maximal fünf Jahre. Gelehrt wird insbesondere Germanistik oder Deutsch als Fremdsprache, aber auch andere Fachgebiete wie Politikwissenschaft oder Jura.

🇩🇪 🇯🇵 How can Germany and Japan strengthen their cooperation in medical research further?

More than 800 research partnerships currently link the two countries across a wide range of disciplines. The upcoming KIWi Connect event “German-Japanese Cooperation in Medical Research” will showcase exisiting collaborations in the medical field and explore new opportunities for joint research projects.

Three key questions will guide the discussion:
💡 How can suitable partners for cooperation in medical research be identified?
💡 How can long-term scientific networks be established and strengthened?

🔐🌍 How can we secure academic freedom without compromising the openness that makes higher education thrive?

This question was at the heart of this year’s ID-E Berlin - International Dialogue on Education, held under the title “Securing Freedom in Higher Education” at the Nordic Embassies in Berlin.

Universities today are navigating an increasingly complex landscape. Geopolitical tensions, cybersecurity threats and concerns about the misuse of sensitive knowledge require greater awareness and responsible risk management. At the same time, higher education depends on openness: the free exchange of people, knowledge and ideas across borders.

💬 How secure is secure enough - and who decides where scientific cooperation begins and where it ends?

Together with Prof. Diana Beech, Prof. Tanja Brühl, Dr. Jonathan Koppell and Prof. Teivo Teivainen, moderated by science journalist Jan-Martin Wiarda, the discussion explored how universities can move towards responsible de-risking without de-coupling - protecting sensitive knowledge without undermining academic freedom and international cooperation.

But one message went far beyond risk management: protecting academic freedom also means building public trust.

Universities need to reach beyond academic communities and engage with people where they are - across communities, in different languages and again and again. They need to explain and translate, but above all, translate words into action.

Science communication also means communicating uncertainty. And universities need to keep asking themselves what they are - and what role they want to play in societies undergoing profound change.

Universities cannot heal society on their own. But they can help create the trust, openness and spaces for exchange on which academic freedom ultimately depends.
