🌏 Unlocking the Potential of Social Procurement in Thailand

Thailand has a rich history of impact-driven entrepreneurship, with social enterprises playing a crucial role in addressing social and environmental challenges. However, access to corporate markets remains a key barrier to scaling their impact.

To bridge this gap, Yunus Thailand and Yunus Social Business, in collaboration with SE Thailand, ChangeFusion, and the Office of Social Enterprise Promotion (OSEP), conducted a comprehensive market analysis in Thailand for the State of Social Procurement 2025 report. This effort was supported by a broader partnership with the World Economic Forum, the Global Alliance for Social Entrepreneurship, and the Schwab Foundation.

📊 Key Data & Insights from 50 Social Enterprises
🔹 46% are officially registered with the Office of Social Enterprise Promotion, though many impact-driven enterprises operate informally.
🔹 78% create both social and environmental impact, with many focusing on food & agriculture and manufacturing.
🔹 More than half have fewer than 10 employees, making them small but high-potential players.
🔹 62% generate less than a quarter of their income from corporate clients, showing room for stronger B2B relationships.
🔹 41% of corporate procurement contracts last less than six months, underscoring the need for long-term, sustainable partnerships.
🔹 Social enterprises with corporate experience are still in early stages—71% of micro-enterprises are at a ‘beginner’ level in corporate readiness.

🚀 Next Steps
To scale corporate partnerships and unlock market access for social enterprises, key focus areas include:
✔ Increased financial & non-financial support—including certification, networking, and business development training.
✔ Expanding visibility for social enterprises, highlighting their offerings on digital platforms.
✔ Longer-term corporate contracts that enable social businesses to plan, scale, and sustain their impact.

Brazil’s Social Procurement Landscape: A Market on the Rise 📈

At YSB, we believe in the power of business as a force for good. That’s why we’re proud to be part of the movement shaping Brazil’s Impact Procurement landscape. 🚀

The State of Social Procurement 2025 report—developed with contributions from our Ecoa Coalition for Impact Procurement, in partnership with the World Economic Forum, the Global Alliance for Social Entrepreneurship, and the Schwab Foundation—highlights how businesses and public policies are transforming procurement into a tool for social and environmental impact.

Brazil is emerging as a global leader in Impact Procurement—the term “Impact Procurement” is more common than “Social Procurement”—where corporations and public entities align purchasing power with sustainability and inclusion. The numbers speak for themselves:

🔹 8 out of 10 companies recognize sustainable, inclusive, and diverse purchasing as a strategic priority.
🔹 R$18 billion was invested in impact businesses in 2023, accelerating innovation in regenerative practices and community-driven enterprises.
🔹 Public procurement accounts for 12% of Brazil’s GDP, making it a major driver for social transformation.

At the Ecoa Coalition for Impact Procurement, an initiative led by the brazilian branch of Yunus Social Business and the Aspen Network for Development Entrepreneurs, we are committed to fostering this ecosystem. We work alongside corporate and public sector leaders to turn procurement into an engine for economic inclusion and sustainability. 🌱

💡 What’s next?
With regulatory advancements—like the Benefit Corporations Bill—and increasing corporate engagement, Impact Procurement is gaining momentum. Companies are realizing that purchasing decisions can be a catalyst for change, integrating diverse suppliers and creating sustainable value chains.

🌍 Supply chains are more than just logistics—they shape economies, impact communities, and define the future of business. And right now, they’re under immense pressure.

At Yunus Social Business, we’re proud to have contributed to the State of Social Procurement 2025—a groundbreaking report by the Global Alliance for Social Entrepreneurship, , and . This report sheds light on how social procurement isn’t just an ethical choice but a strategic necessity for resilience and long-term success.

🔍 What the data tells us:
An analysis of over 150,000 supply chain events provided by Prewave reveals that 1 in 5 material supply chain issues are linked to social factors. No wonder one-third of corporate social innovation budgets now focus on social enterprises and building resilient supply chains!

💡 Why this matters now more than ever:
Disruptions are increasing—over 6,000 supply chain events were reported in October 2024 alone, the highest in nearly two years. The biggest challenges?
🔹 Legal & regulatory issues (26%)
🔹 Social issues (19%)—with labor strikes making up 35%
🔹 Environmental incidents (13%)
When looking only at external events beyond company control, social disruptions jump to 28%, with labor strikes alone accounting for 40%.

Here’s the bottom line: Companies already invest in social impact, but their greatest opportunity lies in where they spend the most. While FTSE 100 companies allocate an average of $12M to corporate social responsibility, their $5B in procurement spending could drive far greater impact.

💼 How can businesses turn their supply chains into a force for good?
By embracing social procurement—directing corporate purchasing power toward social enterprises and impact-first organizations.

📢 Key insights from the report:
✔️ Social procurement strengthens supply chain resilience.
✔️ New regulations are pushing companies toward impact-first strategies.
✔️ Case studies from 10+ regions showcase practical solutions for scaling impact.
