BARBARA HAMMER

Pleasure of Discovery
The Pleasure of Discovery film programme is dedicated to the films of Barbara Hammer, with a particular focus on those from the 1980s. While her early 1970s works are committed to social realism and emerged from a “perspective of participation”*, as Natascha Frankenberg describes, her films from the 1980s become significantly more abstract. The focus here shifts to an interest in cinematic material and form. This phase is characterised by fragmentary images, superimpositions, and a playful approach to light, colour, and texture. However, Hammer’s central concern remains the same: the depiction of le***an desire. She explores how non-normative sexualities and identities can be made visible through abstract, poetic and unfamiliar visual languages. Thus, her films from this period are not only formal experiments, but also q***r-political interventions.
*Frankenberg, Natascha: Q***re Zeitlichkeiten in dokumentarischen Filmen, Bielefeld 2021, p. 205.

Guest: Natascha Frankenberg

After the screening, there will be a discussion with Natascha Frankenberg, a media studies scolar,
curator and specialist in q***r cinema. Language: German

Friday June 19th 2026, 7 – 9 p.m. & Saturday June 20th 2026 2 – 6 p.m.

agnus = lamb
dulcis = sweet, gentle, pleasant

The Agnus Dulcis project explores the historical and symbolic duality of marzipan – a substance that straddles the worlds of medicine, food and sculpture. Between the 16th and 18th centuries, marzipan was regarded as a healing confection, believed to have the power to purify both body and mind. The public is invited to touch Marie Lynn Speckert’s works – and to taste them.

Agnus Dulcis explores the ambivalence between healing and decay, purity and decay. It reflects on the relationship between humans, animals and matter – and draws attention to the mechanisms of the meat industry, in which bodies become objects of economic and symbolic exploitation.

The work is a quiet act of resistance against the alienation of the body – an invitation to understand vulnerability and consumption as interwoven forms of belief.

of Q***r Underground – The Monster can speak

exhibition: June 7. - 13. 2026
Opening hours: Thursday & Saturday 5 – 8 p.m. and by appointment
+One night June 10th 5 - 10 p.m.

Paul B. Preciado posed the question “Can the monster speak?” to 3,500 psychoanalysts in a lecture at the École de la Cause freudienne in Paris in November 2019. In it, he addresses the ideological cages of psychoanalysis, which is trapped in a binary sexual and colonial regime.
He also explores analytical practices and orders of knowledge that can do justice to diverse forms of life.
With the exhibition Q***r Underground – The Monster Can Speak, Melo Börner sets out to find answers to precisely this question. Across three rooms, she opens up the mind, body, and soul of her art and explores the potential of a fictional q***r underground as an empowering refuge for the vulnerable and confused, the rejected, outsiders and aliens.

2027

How to stand against?

For 2027, we are seeking constructive concepts and formats that explore, invent and realize forms of creative resistance in times of multiple global crises.

We see cultural and artistic actions as a significant and identity-forming alternative to digital alienation and social fragmentation.

We call for: friction through fiction, emotional and moral rearmament against disruption and destruction.

The „how“ of restistance!

Encounter Alienation
Peace Friction
Collective Isolation
Logic Poetry
Affect Defect
Freedom Security

We are seeking projects that explore an artistic engagement with forms of resistance. We are interested in proposals that go beyond a solo exhibition. In 2027, the space for drastic measures offers the opportunity to explore, curate or implement diverse artistic formats.

Me, Me, Me – or Us? The exhibition ‘Web Developers’, explores the relationships between the individual and the collective. Through weaving and collage, individual works merge into a shared piece, reflecting on collective representation in a society of individuals and establishing collaboration as an artistic practice and visual experiment.

Is there, within the collective, a moment of self-surrender or of affirmation? How does one weave something together without erasing oneself as an individual, but instead becoming stronger within the community — stronger precisely because the others are there? Can a collective work function like a form of protest?

The exhibition unfolds as a woven installation alongside a free collage of excerpts.

+ONE
night as part of the 2026

10th June 2026, 5 – 10 p.m.

In the +ONE concept, developed by Melo Börner and implemented with Hanna Steinert the invited performance artists will not only perform themselves, but will each invite another performance artist. This creates an open, constantly evolving program that focuses on collective practice and networking.

This concept works as a q***r-feminist underground space: raw, accessible, and communal. Participants can observe and actively get involved. The audience is invited to blur the boundaries between the stage and the space and to experience q***rness as a collective, resistant, and joyful
practice.

This action is brought to life at various venues and takes different forms, ranging from performance, drag, karaoke, and readings.
