🎓 Ceremonial Awarding of Certificates: Proud Moments for the School of Business! 🎓

Last Friday was a day of celebration as over 300 graduates of Technische Hochschule Augsburg were honored in a festive ceremony – including students of the Master’s program International Business and Finance. 🏆

In 2022, course director Prof. Dr. Thorsten Feix launched a remarkable initiative, inviting students from Ukraine to come to Augsburg to complete the Master’s program at the School of Business. Two years later, these talented students stood proudly on stage to receive their certificates. A particularly inspiring story is that of Yev Lokhtin, who completed the entire Master’s program online from Ukraine. Despite the physical distance, Yev was an active and engaged member of the Master’s class – a true testament to perseverance and the power of digital collaboration. 🌐✨

We are incredibly proud of our graduates, who have not only achieved academic excellence but have also demonstrated exceptional intercultural skills and teamwork. You are ready to take on the future! 🚀

Yesterday, study programme director Prof. Dr. Thorsten Feix proudly welcomed the newest cohort of the master programme “International Business and Finance”!

Over the past few years, the master programme has seen incredible growth, and this year is no exception – we hit a record with nearly 500 applications! After a rigorous selection process, we are excited to have admitted 40 talented students from all over the world who are starting their journey today.

🎓✨ We are thrilled to introduce two graduates of the Master’s program in International Business and Finance, Nicolai Pest and Julia Wagner. As part of the double degree programme with our partner university, ESCE Paris, Nicolai and Julia have taken the opportunity to obtain an additional foreign degree.

📸 The photo captures both on the day of their Master’s thesis defense. They dealt with highly topical and captivating subjects that are crucial to the future of international business and finance:

🚗 Nicolai Pest's thesis delved into "Value Migration within the Global Automotive Value Chain - The New Value Zones for the 2030s/40s." His research provides a forward-looking analysis of how the automotive industry is evolving and identifying emerging value areas in the coming decades.

💡 Julia Wagner focused her thesis on "Mastering Supply Chain Finance in the Era of ESG – The Role of FinTechs in Sustainable Supply Chain Finance." Julia's outstanding work highlighted the significant impact of FinTechs in promoting sustainability within supply chains.

We wish Nicolai and Julia all the best for their futures. Their dedication, insight, and innovation have set a high standard, and we are confident they will continue to make significant contributions to the field of international business and finance. 🌟👏

Today we would like to introduce Giovanni from Italy, who is studying at Università degli Studi di Genova. He is spending one semester abroad at our Faculty of Business, taking part in the master program International Business and Finance. Here he talks about his experiences:

“I have just completed my first semester looking back on an incredible journey. It has been a great opportunity for me to broaden my horizons, and my passion for finance and business has even continued to grow during this time. I really enjoyed being in an environment full of international students. I felt at home and accepted by everyone. Many thanks to my fellow students for integrating me! We have made friends and had a lot of fun together - I even found it easy to study for the exams and prepare presentations in a team. I would recommend everyone to do a semester abroad and if you are interested in the world of finance, the Master IBF is the right programme for you.”

👩‍🎓Congratulations! Two students of the IBF master program received their degree certificates at the Technische Hochschule Augsburg graduation ceremony held at the Congress Centre “Kongress am Park” in December: Robin Helmschrott from Germany completed a double degree with our partner university ESCE in Paris. Elena Elistratova moved to Augsburg for her master studies after having completed her Bachelor's degree in Economics at the Faculty of Financial Markets in Moscow.
Professor László Kovács, Vice President for Studies and Teaching, said in his speech to all graduates: "Awarding you your certificates today is a sign of confidence. We believe in the fact that our graduates are prepared for a world that urgently needs solutions. Professor Nadine Warkotsch, Vice President for Research and Sustainability, added: "Let your dreams become true."

Gamze Yilmaz from Turkey graduated in 2023 from the THA with a master's degree in International Business and Finance. That's what she says looking back on her studies:

"The special thing about this Master's programme is that it is very international, both in terms of colleagues and the programme itself, where we also have international guests as professors. As the international students come from different educational systems, the programme is designed in such a way that all students can reach the same level in the first semester before we move on to the upper level. That's why we didn't have so many difficulties going into depth. Fortunately, our professors are very helpful and supportive throughout the programme. The Master IBF is also very application-oriented: The knowledge acquired on the programme can easily be put into practice in the working world.
What I want to do in the future? I'm still on a journey. I love finance, I love playing with numbers and I want to become as much of an expert in this field as possible. Maybe I'll do a PhD in the future …"😀

The DAAD Prize has been awarded to Mariia Kostenko: The International Business and Finance Master's student from Ukraine was honored for outstanding academic achievements and exceptional volunteer works at the Winter Fair on 01 December 2023. She was selected from among the 600 international students currently completing a full Bachelor's or Master's degree at Technische Hochschule Augsburg.
The DAAD prize is awarded annually and is endowed with 1,000 euros. Ines Roman, Head of the International Office, congratulated her on behalf of the entire university team and presented her with the certificate. In addition to her excellent academic achievements, it was above all her work as a tutor for fellow students that convinced the selection committee. Congratulating Mariia, Prof. Dr. Thorsten Feix, Head of the International Business and Finance Master's degree program, said, “ With her outstanding achievements, remarkable social and intercultural commitments, Mariia serves as an important role model for other international students. Since her arrival in Germany in summer 2022, she has been supporting other international applicants with the onboarding process at THA. I am thrilled that she has been conferred with the coveted DAAD Award for her performance and volunteer works.”
Kostenko is planning to graduate at the end of the 2024 summer semester and is currently looking for a topic for her Master's thesis. She can well imagine staying in Augsburg after graduation. She feels very much at home in the city and has quickly made friends here.

As part of the Blue Chip Lectures in the International Business and Finance Master's programme, the Faculty of Business is once again welcoming speakers from the TOP management of large companies this semester. We were very happy to have Nazir Mehrzad Balach on campus, Senior Recruiter at Allianz SE. He graduated from the International Business School in Munich and in his current position is responsible for the recruitment of the CEO division of Allianz SE. In his extremely inspiring and motivating presentation, he gave insights into the strategies of the Allianz Group and presented Allianz as an interesting employer with many opportunities for personal development. Thank you very much for the exciting exchange! 🙏

One week before the official start of the semester, on 28 and 29 September, we welcomed the students of the master program International Business and Finance at an onboarding workshop to get to know each other. Prof. Dr. Thorsten Feix, Academic Advisor of the Master IBF, introduced the program and started with an intercultural presentation workshop. The international Coordinators presented the possibilities of studying abroad as students are required to study at one of our partner universities in the second term. Alisa Kasle-Henke, lecturer of the module Cross-Cultural Management, helped among others to overcome “the culture clash” with a few games.

We wish our new IBF students a good start into their exciting journey through the world of global capital markets! 😃

🏃 The Faculty of Business started yesterday with a highly motivated IBF runners team in the Mnet Corporate Run. Mary Bisgrove made it to 3rd place in the women's student ranking! 🥉 Silas Seitz, the best runner of the Faculty, reached the finish line with a running time of 20:39 minutes and made the 12th place. 🔥 Congratulations to you and to all runners on successfully getting to the finish line! Overall, we had a lot of fun and a great team spirit. Thanks a lot for being part of the Faculty runners team! 🙏

We congratulate alumnus Benjamin Schellinger on completing his doctorate! 👨‍🎓 After his Bachelor's degree in International Management and the subsequent Master's degree in International Business and Finance at the Hochschule Augsburg, he did his doctorate at the Kernkompetenzzentrum Finanz- & Informationsmanagement in Bayreuth. In his dissertation on "The Secret Key to the Heart of Decentralized Finance: Unlocking the Potential of Crypto Assets and Currencies to Advance the Financial Sector," he investigated the potential of decentralized finance for the financial sector, pursuing the overall goal of guiding the traditional financial sector in the design and management of crypto assets & currencies. He received the top grade "Summa Cum Laude" for this. 👏

Peer Review and Strategy 2023-27 of our International Master Program IBF: We had the privilege to host our Peer-Review with international students, leading scientists and M&A and finance experts from the corporate world. We are so pleased that all our time wise investment and engagement for our beloved international master paid off … We also discussed great ideas how to strengthen the strategic development of our master program even further in the 2020s.
