Hey everyone! Ready to talk about the UK budget? I’ve got some big updates for you!

📆Starting April 6, 2025, the UK is scrapping “Non-Dom” status, which used to give tax breaks on foreign income. Instead, they’re introducing FIG (foreign income and gains exemption), which will only last four years for anyone who hasn’t been a UK tax resident in the last 10 years.

Key Changes:
 
▪️Inheritance Tax (IHT): This tax will now apply to assets outside the UK if you’ve lived there for more than 10 years. There’s also a new “IHT tail” that follows you for up to 10 years after you leave—meaning, if you leave but pass away before those 10 years are up, your inherited assets could still be taxed by the UK.
▪️Closing Protective Trusts: Protective trusts, long used for tax planning, will lose their effectiveness.
 ▪️TRF (Transitional Repatriation Facility): This allows you to bring back accumulated capital to the UK at a reduced tax rate of 12-15% instead of the usual 45%. But, it’s only available until 2028 and requires detailed accounting and timely declarations.

What does this mean?

The new rules are a big shift for anyone with property or assets in the UK. With traditional protections weakened, investors will need to adapt their strategies. One option to consider? Moving to Cyprus.

🧐 The hottest topic in the news today is the Budget delivered by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves. Finally, the rumors are dispelled - Rachel Reeves, delivered a Budget and we can see how it affects us.

Here are some of the key points at-a-glance ↙️ :

◾️ Anyone who has been a UK tax resident for more than four years will pay UK tax on any foreign income and gains.
◾️ Taxes on carried interest, generally paid by private equity managers, will rise from 28% to 32% from April.
◾️ The capital gains tax will be raised. The lower rate will increase from 10% to 18%, and the higher rate will go from 20% to 24%. However, the 24% rate on capital gains for second properties will not change.
◾️ Tax increases totaling £2 billion will result from reforms to reliefs for business and agricultural assets. Inheritance tax will be set at 20% on those assets exceeding £1 million.
◾️ Estate tax rates will remain the same: 18% (lower rate) and 24% (higher rate).
◾️ The lifetime limit for business divestment relief will remain at £1m. The rate of relief will remain at 10% this year and then rise to 14% in 2025 and 18% in 2026.
◾️ Non-UK nationals will be able to bring foreign income and gains earned before April 2025 into the UK and pay tax at a reduced rate of 12% under the «temporary repatriation mechanism.».
◾️ The rate of corporation tax will remain at 25% for the duration of this Parliament, and current spending exemptions will be maintained.
◾️ From 2028 to 2029, income tax thresholds would again be raised in line with inflation.

Reeves says it is a moment of “fundamental choice” for the UK but it looks like the moment of farewell with non-domicile residents. They started to relocate their capitals to more stable jurisdictions.
