CREDIT RISK RADAR | September
A strong economy doesn't mean every customer is financially strong.
As Cyprus enters the second half of 2026, growth remains resilient, supported by a healthy labour market and solid public finances. At the same time, recent forecasts point to a more cautious outlook as geopolitical uncertainty and tighter financial conditions continue to weigh on the economy.

This is exactly when credit risk becomes harder to spot. While the broader economy remains resilient, individual businesses may already be experiencing financial pressure.

September's Radar takeaway:
Know which customers are quietly weakening, and use Credit Insurance to help protect the receivables that matter most.

Know your credit risk.

“Credit insurance” sounds abstract, until a €40,000 invoice goes unpaid. So here’s what it actually does, in plain terms.

When you insure a sale and the customer doesn’t pay, three things happen:

🛡️ PREVENT
Before you even ship, the insurer checks the buyer’s financial health and sets a safe credit limit. You trade with eyes open.

📞 COLLECT
If payment stalls, the insurer’s collections team steps in to recover what you’re owed.

💶 COMPENSATE
If the debt can’t be recovered, you’re paid out, typically up to 90% of the loss.

That’s the difference between a bad debt that dents your year and one that barely registers.

As an independent broker, we work for you, not the insurer to get the cover that actually fits your business.

Not sure if credit insurance fits your business? Ask us a 15-minute chat is enough to find out.

By the time a customer stops paying, the warning signs have usually been there for months.

Here are five warning signs to watch for 👇
1.They start paying later: 45, then 60, then 75 days.
2.They begin disputing small invoice details to buy time.
3.Orders suddenly spike (struggling businesses often over-order before trouble).
4.Key people leave, especially in finance.
5.They go quiet: calls go unanswered, statements are ignored.

One of these can mean very little. Three together reveal a pattern.
The point isn't to panic. It's to act early, while you still have options.
Credit Insurance is more than protection against non-payment. It is one of the most effective tools for proactively managing credit risk, protecting receivables, and making better business decisions.

Late payments are often seen as a temporary inconvenience.

In reality, they tie up working capital, reduce liquidity, and limit a business's ability to invest, grow, and respond to new opportunities.

When access to financing becomes more challenging, protecting your cash flow becomes even more important.

Credit Insurance is more than protection against non-payment. It is one of the most effective tools for protecting receivables, strengthening cash flow, and supporting healthier business decisions.

The goal isn't simply to recover unpaid invoices. It's to keep your business moving.

How much working capital is currently tied up in your overdue receivables?

At Novardia Credit Insurance Brokers Limited, we help businesses use Credit Insurance as a strategic tool to manage credit risk, protect receivables, and trade with greater confidence.

👉 Let's run the numbers together and explore how Credit Insurance can strengthen your business: https://novardia.com/

Cyprus just posted one of the sharpest rises in company bankruptcies in the entire EU while new business registrations fell.

If you sell on credit, that headline isn’t background noise. It means the customer who paid you fine last year may be under real strain today and you often won’t see it in the numbers until the invoice goes unpaid.

The businesses that stay steady in a climate like this do three things: they know who they’re trading with, they set credit limits deliberately, and they protect their biggest receivables before there’s a problem.

That’s exactly the work we do quietly, in the background so growth never rests on hope that everyone pays.

Payment delays are becoming a growing challenge across industries.
Rising operating costs, tighter liquidity, and ongoing market uncertainty are increasing financial pressure on businesses worldwide.

For many companies, delayed payments are no longer occasional disruptions.
They are becoming a structural business risk.
Industries with longer payment cycles and tighter margins are often the first to feel the impact.
The question is no longer whether payment risk exists.
The question is how prepared your business is to manage it.

At Novardia, we help businesses improve visibility and manage credit risk with greater confidence.

What happens if one customer generates 40% of your revenue and suddenly stops paying?
For many businesses, customer concentration creates a hidden risk that often goes unnoticed until it directly impacts cash flow, operations, and growth.

The greater the dependency on a small number of customers, the greater the exposure.
Customer concentration risk is not just about revenue.
It is about business stability.

Reducing exposure starts with better visibility, stronger risk assessment, and proactive planning.

At Novardia, we help businesses identify concentration risks early and strengthen confidence in every trade decision.

Geopolitical tensions are reshaping global trade and businesses are already feeling the impact.
While ongoing instability in the Middle East continues to pressure trade routes, logistics, supply chains, and liquidity, it is also accelerating resilience strategies across the Gulf economies, with increased investment in sectors such as finance, logistics, manufacturing, transport, and communications.
For businesses trading internationally, the implications go beyond operations.
In periods of uncertainty, payment delays, customer financial pressure, and credit risk exposure can increase, making visibility, informed decision-making, and proactive risk management more important than ever.

The question is no longer whether uncertainty exists but how prepared your business is to navigate it.
At Novardia, we help businesses strengthen confidence in trade through smarter risk management and credit insurance solutions that support stability, resilience, and sustainable growth.

Would you approve a €50,000 sale with payment in 60 days… without knowing the financial strength of your customer?
This is the reality many businesses face every day.

Credit insurance does more than protect against unpaid invoices, it gives businesses access to insights, confidence, and stronger decision-making when trading locally or internationally.

Growth should not come at the expense of security.
