Did you know Limassol’s Molos park used to be completely underwater? 🌊
Here is the 150 year story of how the city's iconic seafront was transformed:
⚓ 1880s: Limassol needed a modern trade gateway to connect with the world. By 1881, a massive iron pier was built right into the sea, kickstarting a major commercial boom.
💡 1900s: Old industrial warehouses blocked the coastline. In 1908, city leaders cleared them away to open up the seafront view, adding the first electric streetlights by 1912.
🏗️ 1970s: Through an incredible engineering feat, the sea was pushed back, reclaiming the land you walk on today and shaping modern Molos.
🎨 2000s–Present: The park continued to evolve, adding 20 large scale sculptures from international art symposiums. A €12 million redevelopment later created the world class, multi functional park we enjoy today.

We all love a Sunday walk at Molos park, but did you know you’re literally walking on what used to be open sea? 🌊 Limassol’s waterfront has an incredible 150 year story. Back in 1881, it started as a British trade pier, but old Ottoman warehouses completely blocked the water view. It wasn't until Mayor Christodoulos Sozos tore them down in 1908 and added electric streetlights by 1912, and that's when our seafront finally opened up. Then came the massive 1970s engineering feat that pushed the sea back to reclaim the land. By the end of 20th century the park was enriched by 20 iconic public sculptures. A final €12M upgrade in 2015 turned our promenade into the world class park it is today. Here at Pandomus Group we are proud of our city's history and we wanted to share it with you.
