Vertical Marathon is becoming a defining urban sports challenge as city skylines grow taller.

The first major international towerrunning event in 2026, held on 10th January at the 599-metre-tall Ping An Finance Center (PAFC) in Shenzhen, attracted a record number of challengers from around the world.

🏃‍♂️1,500 athletes from more than 15 countries, including Austria, China, Croatia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Spain, climbed 3,601 steps.
🏙️Top-tier runners who have conquered the Empire State Building and Taipei 101 came to challenge the Greater Bay Area skyline.
🏆 Malaysia’s Wai Ching Soh claimed the men’s elite title in a course-record 19:23. Croatia’s Tea Faber successfully defended her women’s crown. Both champions achieved their new personal best.

This year marks the 7th year Ping An hosted the event. As China’s 2nd tallest building, PAFC is proud to be officially authorized and certified by the Towerrunning World Association (TWA) and the Asia-Pacific Vertical Marathon Association (AVA) as a world-class vertical course.

Congratulations to all the athletes for the incredible achievements 🎉

116 Floors. 599 meters. 3,201 Stairs. One Towering Challenge. 🏃‍♂️💨

2026 is the Year of the Horse – a symbol of speed and energy. We’re kicking off the year in full stride by racing to the top of one of the world’s tallest buildings.

On Jan 10th, our headquarters, the Ping An Finance Center, will become the vertical track for the International Vertical Marathon. We’re thrilled to host more than 1,500 runners from around the world, alongside tech industry leaders such as Huawei, DJI, and ByteDance.

It’s going to take grit, stamina, and serious "horsepower" to conquer the height. Who will reach the summit first to catch the stunning skyline of the Greater Bay Area?

Stay tuned!

Yaks are more than just animals to Tibetan herders, they are also their spiritual companions.

Today, more than 200,000 yaks are being raised on snowy Tibetan plateaus at altitudes of 3,500 meters above sea level. Snowstorms and diseases are the major environmental threats to the livestock of these herders. Taking out insurance policies to hedge these risks is the obvious answer. This is where Baden, a native Tibetan and employee at the Biru Branch of our Property & Casualty company in Tibet, stepped in to offer tailored insurance services.

However, herders are terrified by the ear-tagging required for digital tracking in order that insurance can be deployed. They see their yaks as family and fear the process would hurt the animals.

Yaks are incredibly strong and difficult to control. Ear-tagging is a delicate, high-risk process and requires team effort: one person soothes the animal, another holds the horns, while a third applies the tag with special tools. The tagging has to be done at lightning speed to ensure their ears aren’t torn. It is precisely a "wrestling match" to ensure the safety of the yaks.

Battling with both the formidable strength of the yaks and the extreme conditions high up on the plateaus, Baden and his team never gave up. They visited tents after tents, patiently explaining to herders that the small tag isn’t a danger to the yaks, but a protection for their livelihood.

To bridge the service gap further, Ping An Property & Casualty introduced a Tibetan-language version of the AI Nong Bao App, making digital claims accessible to every herder.

The impact today:
- Over 230,000 yaks tagged (95% coverage)
- Nearly 3,000 claims handled with a 100% closure rate
- Claim settlement time reduced to an average of just 6.6 days

🌳Ancient trees are living climate archives. At COP30, we unveiled our “Ancient Tree Guardian Action,” showcasing our efforts to preserve ecological heritage and biodiversity.

These giants are more than natural monuments—they hold centuries of ecological data, helping scientists model climate risks and predict future extremes.

Yet protecting them is complex: they are vulnerable to pests and climate shifts, and their scattered locations and hard-to-quantify value pose challenges for traditional insurance. The high cost of manual inspections often creates blind spots in underwriting, leaving many trees unprotected.

To help bridge this gap, Ping An introduced an innovative “Insurance + Technology” model. By integrating big data, AI, and IoT, we can conduct multidimensional risk evaluations remotely and efficiently.

This capability enabled the launch of Guangdong’s first ancient-tree insurance in 2023, creating a comprehensive protection cycle—pre-disaster prevention, in-disaster emergency response, and post-disaster compensation.

As of October 2025, the program has provided over RMB 700 million (approx. USD 98 million) in risk protection for more than 55,000 ancient trees nationwide.

🌲 Longevity allows ancient trees to witness centuries of ecological and cultural change—but it also makes them vulnerable.

On Mount Wutai, a UNESCO World Cultural Landscape in Shanxi, more than 400 ancient oil pine, spruce, and larch trees stand as living archives—some over 1,000 years old. Their rings and roots record centuries of climate shifts, but age brings hidden threats: leaning trunks, root rot, and cavities that can make the trees extremely vulnerable to storm damage or pest outbreaks.

🛡️Recently, Ping An launched the Ancient Tree Guardian Action to protect 419 of these trees in Wutai Mountain National Forest Park. The conservation approach covers pre-disaster prevention, emergency response, and post-disaster recovery.

Together with the China Rural Development Association, Ping An has formed an expert group to assess tree health, design care plans, and ensure long-term stewardship.
