Star drawing from world’s largest private Rembrandt collection could bring $15m at auction.

Over the past two decades, the billionaire entrepreneur Thomas S. Kaplan and his wife Daphne Recanati Kaplan collected around 220 works of 17th-century Dutch art that they call the Leiden Collection.

Now they are ready to part with one of their earliest acquisitions: Rembrandt’s life-like drawing Young Lion Resting (around 1638-42). Today (3 November) Sotheby’s announced that the work will be offered at an auction during its Old Masters sales in New York on 4 February 2026, with a pre-sale estimate of $15m to $20m.

Young Lion Resting is the “the best Rembrandt drawing to come on the market in a long time”, says Gregory Rubenstein, Sotheby's worldwide head of Old Master drawings. He says the drawing, which he believes was drawn from life, could attract both private and institutional buyers, including everyone from collectors interested in Rembrandt to those enthralled by “the immediacy of the image”.

From the 100% sold John Shaw Patek Philippe Collection to The Chronicle Part 2 and The Eternity sales, nine world records were set for Patek Philippe references, and three for configurations.

🏛️ Botero’s “Seated Woman” gets released on Splint Invest in 2 days, and it’s the kind of blue‑chip art usually reserved for top galleries.

A €294,150 bronze from a rare edition, acquired at roughly an 11.5% discount to fair value, with a balanced 14% p.a. net return target over a 2–4 year horizon.

This work sits in the sweet spot of Botero’s market: mature-period bronze, strong provenance, and active posthumous* market demand since 2023.

For investors, that means exposure to a globally recognised name, low‑to‑moderate volatility, and a category with a long track record of steady appreciation rather than hype-driven spikes.

If you’re looking to add a museum-level asset with real data behind the thesis, not just a pretty object, this is one to watch closely when it goes live.

*Posthumous, as used hereinabove, refers to the demand for the artist’s works after his passing.

⏳ Officially available for investment on: 5 December 2025 at 9:00 AM CET.

A blue‑chip Banksy print is now released on Splint Invest.

Coloured Trolleys (2007) enters the platform at an institutional‑grade discount of around 19.6% versus the best gallery benchmark, giving investors access to a signed edition of 750 at a price point normally reserved for private dealers and auction rooms.

With a targeted net CAGR of 19.9% over a 2–4 year horizon and risk metrics slightly outperforming the SMI, this release combines clear return expectations with a defined risk framework rather than hype.

🏷️ AUCTION NEWS

Christie’s 21st Century Evening Sale on Wednesday, November 19 at 7pm in New York is set to be a landmark event, launching with an exceptional selection from the Edlis | Neeson Collection, an assemblage widely recognized as one of the most important in the realm of contemporary art.

The auction features key works by artists such as Richard Prince, Ed Ruscha, Jeff Koons, and Andy Warhol, with one of the centerpieces being Christopher Wool’s Untitled (RIOT), 1990. Estimated at $15,000,000–20,000,000, Wool’s striking “RIOT” embodies the visual impact and bold conceptual language that define his practice.

Christopher Wool (born 1955) is an American painter renowned for his innovative approach to abstract and conceptual art. Raised in Chicago, Wool moved to New York City in the early 1970s, where he developed his distinctive style, most famously through bold text-based “word paintings” and experimental techniques that challenge the boundaries of art.
