Unfortunately, there not so much student campus as in some other countries. From the most famous universities like the Federal polytechnic school in Lausanne and Zurich you’ll be able to find a decent room or studio live on the campus.

The requirements are all available on their respective websites. In some cities like Geneva Zurich St Gallen some universities have accommodation for some of the faculties. The number of those rooms / appartement still remain very limited and hard to get.

It is important to mention that the real estate market in Switzerland and especially in the big cities is over heating for the last 15-20 years now. So, the rental market is also experiencing some price increasement every year. This is not to make life easier for students. More and more students organize themselves in collocation, renting a bigger appartement and sharing it with 2-3 other friends.

Our advice remains to use the internet and start searching for a place to live in advance and if you like the life in community get some friend with you and rent a bigger appartement all together. Also, a little tip when renting you’ll be asked to give a security deposit of 3 months of rent, this you can avoid using one of the rental security insurance products that are easily available to the market. This way you won’t have block this amount on a separate bank account, but you’ll be paying a yearly insurance premium instead, that is substantially lower than the 3 months of rent!

We had a lot of those questions on our page, and we have decided to make a short article about this issue.

In Switzerland there is a federal commission that will decide if your diploma is fully recognized and if there are some additional tests to be done to get it. This body is the SERI, they are the ones that deals with the various demands of recognition.
There are different procedures if you have a diploma issued in the EU or outside of EU. Sometimes the agreements of the university that have delivered the diploma might change the procedure and finally last but not the least the domain of your studies will have a role too. For example, if you did your studies in the field of economy, won’t be the same procedure you did it in medicine etc.…

This is why we wanted to share will all of you this valuable information and also you may find many other answers to your questions on their website here.
We will be happy to continue the discussion with you on our page!

We are coming gently to the end of the semester! If you are still thinking that you have time, and you’ll get everything on time… well don’t waste too much time… start already to get thing “on a clean paper” and start to repeat your homework! Time will go faster than you realize especially if you’re a rookie. The joy of discovery of new people, a new way of life, the independence in organizing your day and your private life can sometimes get you out of the main path – your studies – your future!

So, we can’t emphasize enough how much a constant learning is crucial in your success on the exams. Don’t let yourself being overwhelmed with distraction put your learning at the first place. This is only demanding a little bit of discipline and mental strength. Did you know that when you come for studies in Switzerland, you’ll have the right to be exempted from the mandatory health insurance? Well now it is the case! The good side is that you’ll make some considerable economy by not being submitted to pay the mandatory Swiss health insurance. (here you’ll find an idea of the costs).

The downside is that you’ll have to get your European health card from your home (national) insurance. For example, you’ll find the procedure here if you’re coming from France. Also, there will be another downside of it. Not all the medical providers will accept it. So, far only the university hospital will accept it in case of a medical emergency, or hospitalization. To get your costs refunded you’ll have to apply for the refund in your home country or through the Swiss body that does the coordination.

Finally, you’ll have a participation that will remain at your charge.

But we are happy to tell you that there is also a solution for this administrative headache! There is unique complementary insurance product you can easily subscribe at a very low cost that will cover all the expenses and ease your life. The product can be found exclusively at the site healthmobility.eu!

The Heath insurance in Switzerland is mandatory for all persons living and / or working in Switzerland. The system that is in place now have been introduced in 1996 since then some minor changes have bee done. The coverage is defined by the state and applicable to all insured. The coverage is provided by private health insurers. They can do any anti-selection or demand a health questionnaire to the new insured. Also, any preexisting health state is covered and cannot be refused by the new insurer.

Nevertheless, there are some categories of the population that can get an exemption of subscribing the mandatory health insurance. One of them are foreign students arriving in Switzerland for their studies. In order to get the exemption, you have to be insured by a foreign insurer that provides equivalent coverage as the one indicated by the Swiss state. You have 3 months, from the date you arrive, to demand the exemption. Your demand has to be done to the cantonal institution in charge of the health insurance control. You’ll have to provide a confirmation from your foreign insurer stating he provides equivalent coverage as well as the form for your demand.

Here you’ll find a publication of the federal office for public health, where you’ll find many explanations about the mandatory health insurance. Unfortunately, the publication is available only in French, German, and Italian. Nevertheless, we can only recommend it’s reading if you want to understand how the Swiss system is working, it is one of the most unique systems in Europe.

In Switzerland, students from non-EU/EFTA countries are considered "temporary residents" (Ausländer).
This means that they must have valid health insurance before coming to Switzerland and during their stay here. Students from EU/EFTA countries can stay here without having valid health insurance for up to 90 days without a visa requirement but need to have valid health insurance after that point.
Special arrangements apply to persons staying in Switzerland to start or continue education and training, depending on their situation.
With our insurance, you can cover accidents and various diseases. In addition, we have ensured that insurance covers astronomically expensive operations, such as organ transplants. In addition, childbirth and maternity care are included, as well as MRI; tomography, and scanning.
