Everything you need to know about winter sports ⛷
This month topic: winter sports! 🧤
With the first snowflakes comes the natural desire to get out your skis, snowboard or sled. These winter sports are indeed very popular in Switzerland: more than 2 million people put on their snow suits to hurtle down the Swiss mountains. However, every year there are an average of 75,000 accident victims on the slopes. The majority of skiers who are injured suffer knee injuries (25%), shoulder injuries (20%), then leg and foot injuries (15%). Snowboarders, on the other hand, tend to suffer injuries to their forearms and hands (30%), trunk (15%), then shoulders (20%) and head (16%).
The consequences of a skiing accident are on average more important than any other non-professional accident in the sport. They sometimes lead to heavy interventions and work incapacities of several weeks. However, they can be avoided by a few simple measures. Did you know that over 90% of Snowsports accidents are not the fault of a third party? So it's all the more important for you to be aware of the risk factors. What's more, you should be aware that the risk of an accident increases when several factors come together.
