📝Changing your basic insurance is not as painful as it may seem:
1. 31 October: New policies received
After the announcement of the new premiums by the FOPH, the insurance companies have to inform their insurees by 31 October by sending them their new policy documents.

2. 30 November*: Deadline for change
Upon reception of the new policy documents, the insurees have until the end of November to make changes or cancel their policy with their current insurance. ⚠️The letter must be received by the insurance by the last working day of November. It's best sent by registered post.

3. 31 December*: Contracting a new policy
If you want to change providers, you need to sign up with the new company before 31 December.

4. The waiting game:
Sit back and relax. After you've signed up with the new provider, they will notify your former insurance so that the cancellation can take place, and then send you your new policy documents.

*Legal deadline. Effective deadline = last working day of the month

Our Autumn newsletter is out with all the important info you need to know about the 2026 health insurance premiums and what you can do to cushion the financial impact it may have on your household budget:
📈As you already know, the official announcement mentioned a less steep increase than the immediate post-COVID years, the general average hovering at 4.4%.
💡However, the mathematical average doesn't seem to actually correspond in practical terms, according to an independent study.
🎯Our "In focus" section details the necessary steps to take if you wish to make changes on your current policy for next year or to change provider altogether.

We wish you a good read and remain at your disposal if you need guidance in making the necessary changes to your policy.

🏥 The health insurance premiums for 2026 are out! The average national premium increase is 4.4%. German-speaking Switzerland is seeing a sharper increase in premiums this year, with the exception of Zug, which saw a decrease of nearly 15%. Ticino, for its part, will see a 7.1% increase in 2026, with the average monthly premium passing the CHF 500 mark.
The reason for the increase: rising healthcare costs.
The reason for the premium decrease in Zug: the canton will cover 99% of its residents' hospital costs in 2026 and 2027.

In 1996, when LAMal/KVG was introduced, the average premium was CHF 128.

🤸 Deciding on the best LAMal option based your medical expenses can be a balancing act. Depending on your expenses for next year covered by the basic health insurance, you may want to change your deductible. On average, if your healthcare bills exceed 2000.- per calendar year, a 300.- deductible would be the way to go. If you have less, then the highest deductible appears as the most economical option.
The Swiss Confederation website has a very handy official calculator to help you make an informed decision.

We have been quiet lately. But now we feel we need to speak up. We are disappointed. Yesterday, the Swiss Federal Council announced yet another outrageous increase in health insurance premiums with yet again the same explanations: climbing medical costs, the aging population, inflation, and progress in medicine...
Helping people with their health insurance has been our core business since Inswift's inception in 2009. Now, we have been put in an impossible situation as we cannot help our clients get a decent cover and pay an affordable premium anymore. Instead we are trying to minimise the losses, our clients' and our own. We do not need new deductibles, we need a clear vision and strategy on the national level.

⛈️💡 Who insures your contents & house in case of natural hazards damage?
🛋️ There is no obligation to insure your contents unless you live in cantons Vaud, Nidwald, Fribourg/Freiburg or Jura.
🏠 Regarding buildings insurance, the situation is quite different: it is compulsory to insure your property against natural hazards in most cantons. Only Geneva, Valais/Wallis, Ticino and Appenzell Innerrhoden are exceptions to the rule. There, natural hazards cover is optional even for buildings.
