🏦 Bank or insurance: where should you open your Pillar 3a?

Both options can help you reduce your taxable income and build retirement capital—but they work differently.

A bank solution generally offers greater flexibility and a range of investment strategies.

An insurance solution may combine retirement savings with protection in the event of death or disability, but usually involves a longer-term commitment.

There is no single best option for everyone. The right choice depends on your income, family situation, financial goals and need for flexibility.

Watch the video to understand the main differences before deciding.

🇨🇭 Could you have pension assets in Switzerland that you have lost track of?

When you change employers, experience a period without employment or leave Switzerland, your second-pillar pension assets may be transferred to a vested-benefits account.

The money is not necessarily lost—but you may no longer know where it is being held.

If you are unsure where your vested benefits are located, I can help you start the search and understand the options available once they have been found.

⚖️ What many people don’t realize about legal protection insurance in Switzerland:

A disagreement with your employer, landlord, neighbour or an online retailer can quickly require professional legal assistance. Even a traffic dispute or an accident may result in significant lawyer, expert and court costs.

Legal protection insurance can give you access to legal advice and help cover these expenses—depending on your policy—so you are not left defending your rights alone.

In this short video, I explain why this often-overlooked insurance can be so valuable.

🇨🇭 Missed your Pillar 3a contribution in 2025? A major new rule could help you catch up.

From 2026, eligible workers in Switzerland can make retroactive Pillar 3a contributions to cover previous contribution gaps.

Here’s what you need to know:

✅ The first catch-up contribution can be made in 2026 for a gap from 2025.

✅ Future gaps may be filled for up to 10 years—but only gaps arising from 2025 onwards qualify.

✅ Before making a catch-up payment, you must first contribute the maximum ordinary amount for the current year.

✅ You must have earned income subject to Swiss AHV/AVS both in the year of the gap and in the year of the catch-up payment.

✅ The maximum catch-up payment in 2026 is CHF 7,258—even for self-employed people without a second pillar.

The standard 2026 contribution limits remain:

• Employees affiliated with a pension fund: up to CHF 7,258
• Self-employed people without a pension fund: up to 20% of net earned income, capped at CHF 36,288

Example: An eligible employee who did not contribute in 2025 could potentially pay CHF 7,258 for 2026 plus up to CHF 7,258 to cover the 2025 gap—and deduct both amounts from their taxable income.

This is an important opportunity, but the right contribution and strategy will depend on your income, tax situation and long-term objectives.

Most people think it vanishes, but you can actually transfer or cash it out – the rules depend on residency status and the pension fund.

Knowing this can save you from unexpected tax hits and preserve your retirement savings.

Ever wonder why your Swiss tax bill feels heavier than it should? I just discovered a client who slashed CHF 1,200 by tweaking their third‑pillar plan. The trick isn’t a loophole – it’s a legal, FINMA‑registered strategy that lets you funnel pre‑tax money into a Pillar 3A account. It’s simple, transparent, and tailored to your income.

Ever wondered why some advisors seem completely trustworthy?

I recently chatted with a client who switched to an independent, FINMA‑registered advisor. The advisor showed the FINMA badge and shared a short quote: “Saved me CHF 2,500 in just one year.”

No hidden ties, just clear, unbiased guidance. That’s the kind of confidence we all need when planning our future.
