Hearathon 2021

Hearathon 2021 Showcasing activities and events around the world that are launching and promoting the World Report

The World Report on Hearing is being released on 3 March World Hearing Day 2021. The report has been developed with the main aim to provide evidence-based guidance to drive policy actions for integration of ear and hearing care into national health policies, as part of universal health coverage. It provides a great opportunity to engage with policy makers and put a spotlight on the report findings

and call to action. In order to showcase the activities and events being delivered around the world that are launching and promoting the World Report on Hearing, all report-related promotional activity that is engaging with policy makers and politicians will be deemed part of the . The idea is that the combination of local activities and events to launch the report and encourage policy action around the world will result in a continual stream of promotional activity for the report over the 24-hour period of the World Hearing Day 2021. The Key Messages are:
- The number of people living with unaddressed hearing loss and ear diseases is unacceptable.
- Timely action is needed to prevent and address hearing loss across the life course.
- Investing in cost effective interventions will benefit people with hearing loss and bring financial gains to the society.
- Governments must act to integrate person-centred ear and hearing care within national health plans for universal health coverage.

Today is World Hearing Day. I am thankful for this technology right here... it sure has come a long way! The first hearing aid (left) is what I wore when I was 5, the smaller hearing aid (right) is what I wear now, and is digital vs. analog. You can imagine how awkward it was on little 5 year old ears. It started my trend of wearing long hair early! 🦻👩🦻

From Living With Hearing Loss - LivingWithHearingLoss.com

"We Hear You shines a light on the hearing loss experience. It shows a more inclusive world — one that is built for us too. It shatters stigmas of hearing loss that linger, even in our own community and highlights the ways people with hearing loss rise to advocate and build a better world for us all. Enjoy the captioned trailer below.

The full documentary will be available in April. We hope it will be bought by a TV network and/or streaming service and raise the voices and experiences of people with hearing loss to a broader audience."

👂 Over 1.5 billion people are affected by hearing loss.
👂 Of them, nearly 1 out of 3 need .
👂 80% live in low- and middle-income countries.
👂 Hearing loss is on the rise 1.5 billion in 2019 > to 2.5 billion 2050
👂 Countries must act now to provide access to ear and for all
👂 Unaddressed hearing loss costs over USD980 billion annually. This is more than the annual combined health expenditure of 🇧🇷 and 🇨🇳. This is the high cost of inaction!
👂 Effective intervention for hearing loss starts by systematic screening of: newborn & infants; pre-school & school age children; people exposed to noise or chemicals; people using ototoxic medicines; older adults.
👂 Timely and appropriate care ensures people with ear diseases and hearing loss can achieve their full potential.
👂 Provide universal access to ear and using the H.E.A.R.I.N.G package of interventions https://bit.ly/3sLnMBK
