📣 Rate Update: The Bank of Canada has maintained its overnight interest rate at 2.25%.

CMBA Ontario welcomes the hold as a positive signal for borrowers, homeowners and the broader mortgage industry as Ontario continues to navigate economic uncertainty. The next scheduled rate announcement will take place on July 15, 2026.

May 11, 2026 marked a milestone in CMBA Ontario’s history… our very first Queen’s Park Day.

Together with our board and members, we spent a packed day in meetings with Ministers and MPPs, carrying forward a mission we set for ourselves at the end of last summer - putting affordability for first-time homebuyers front and centre.

A core part of our ask was an increase to the First-Time Homebuyer Land Transfer Tax Rebate, which has sat at the same cap since 2017 even as home prices have climbed well beyond what that number reflects. First-time buyers are bearing the cost of that gap, and it’s time the rebate caught up with the reality of today’s market.

The conversations were productive, the feedback was positive, and we even had the chance to meet the Premier of Ontario.

Proud of what this team has built and grateful to everyone who showed up to make this day happen.
