By now you've probably seen one of the new $10 bills featuring Viola Desmond. To be honest I did not know very much about Viola before the bills were released. Her story as a successful business woman and civil rights activist is inspiring but it should also remind us of the mistakes our country has made in the past and how it is the job of every one of us to speak out against discrimination and speak up for inclusion. It’s been a while since I last posted, so I thought I’d do a quick post introducing myself. My name is Tyler Plett. I live in Wolseley with my wife Nicola and our cat, Indiana Jones (Jojo for short). I love my neighborhood and my city, even though it feels so cold for so much of the year. I’ve been in finance for 10 years and so far my job as a Mortgage Specialist with RBC has been the most rewarding. Purchasing a home is a huge life event and I love being able to be part of it. I consider it an honor and a privilege when my clients trust me with what will likely be one of the biggest purchases of their lives. Mortgages and finances can be confusing and stressful for a lot of people. I do my best to make sure that my clients understand their mortgage options and are confident with their decisions. I also do my best to make myself available to my clients at all times through text, phone, or email, because buying a home does not only happen from 9-5 Monday to Friday. In addition to helping with the purchase of your home, I also help clients who are interested in switching their mortgage to RBC and can assist with questions related to refinancing for debt consolidation and renovations. Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, travelling, music, scuba diving, reading, going to the gym, and motorcycle rides with my wife. I also strive to make Winnipeg a better place through regular volunteer work. Politics can be frustrating. It's hard to keep up with all the information and it's hard to keep your facts straight. It can feel like your voice isn't being heard and that makes it even more difficult to want to take time out of your busy day to go vote. But the fact of the matter is that local elections are where your voice counts the most and voting is a privilege that many people around the world do not have. Do your best to educate yourself on the issues at hand and get out to today. Let's make a better place and take care of each other regardless of political choices.
