Do you have a CRA My Account?

I’m surprised how often this comes up when speaking with clients and their families. If you weren’t aware, the Canada Revenue Agency has an account access program where you can one stop see your tax returns, Notice of Assessment, Instalment information and payment status, RRSP and TFSA room, direct deposit information, Child Tax benefits, and much more.
Check it out or if you have it already make sure you log in every so often (I recommend quarterly) so your account stays active and you can keep an eye on things. Have a great Monday!

PSA: T4s are on the way for those of you who collected CERB. There are also links in the article about the “Education” letters sent to those who possibly received an overpayment as well as potential tax credits for those who worked from home in 2020 due to the pandemic.

The Canada Revenue Agency began sending out T4a slips today to Canadians who have received COVID-19 benefits, reminding them that the money is taxable income and must be recorded on their tax returns.

PSA: Here is a handy link to the Canada Revenue Agency on your TFSA Limits and contribution room for 2021. If you were of age when the program started just over 10 years ago you would now have $75,500 of potential contribution room available to you. A great tip is to review your CRA My Account or contact the CRA direct for your available limit every January as penalties are steep for overcontributions and we are not given this number on our Notice of Assessment like we are for RRSP room.

A Tax-Free Savings Account is a new way for residents of Canada over the age of 18 to set money aside, tax free, throughout their lifetime.

Happy New (Business) Year to all our valued friends and clients. Welcome to another year, a fresh start and a new chapter in the book of life. We hope you had a great holiday season and enjoyed some quality downtime.
Barb and I are back in the office today for our normal hours. Government restrictions will have us doing a lot of porch visits, Zoom meetings and phone calls the next little while but as always we are here and ready to serve you and do our part to help you live your best life just a little bit easier and with a little less stress.

Our new neighbours Artesano Cafe just opened up for a soft opening before their Grand Opening in two weeks. Barb and I stopped by today and enjoyed a Chai Tea and an Americano.
