Another step in the right direction for Canadians!

This 0.25% rate cut represents $15 per month of relief per $100,000 of mortgage currently borrowed in a fluctuating payment variable rate mortgage.

This also represents about $25,000 more mortgage borrowing power.

There is more work to be done to address the current affordability and economic landscape, but each small movement on the key interest rate is a signal that recovery is on the horizon.

While some may have been holding hope for a rate drop this month, most were expecting the BOC to stay flat, which is what they did at this morning's press release.

NO CHANGE TO KEY RATE.

This means no increase or decrease in prime lending rates. Variable rate holders are staying put for now.

While the Canadian economy is going in the right direction, our CPI is slowing among other important data reports, but the US reports have us all feeling a little on edge.

The US inflation report for March just came in, and it's higher than expected. Due to that news, we've seen a spike in our Canadian bond market - this directly impacts the fixed rate market here in Canada.

While we aren't predicting any drastic rate jumps just yet, we just aren't seeing the big slide down we were all anxiously hoping for.

This is one square I really like re-using....

We get a pause on rate hikes today - but with a stern warning of course. The BOC still confirms it's maintaining it's quantitative tightening process (meaning, if we F around, we WILL find out...), but today we get to take a little breath. Today we get to (cautiously) celebrate that our mortgage payments and revolving credit products aren't going up.

The Central Bank is watching closely as inflation (and the really sticky parts of inflation) work their way down, but there are a few key segments that are drawing attention and we are being told that if things go back in the other direction (inflation increasing) they won't hesitate to hike rates again.

So....

Spend carefully, make good financial choices where you can and keep going - better days lie ahead for us in 2024! (We hope!)
