This Sunday, I’m taking a moment to reflect on the role mothers, and mother figures play in shaping the lives and families around them.

It’s not always in the big, visible moments. More often, it’s in the consistency. The quiet check-ins. The way they create stability when life feels busy or uncertain. The way they keep everyone connected, often without asking for recognition.

In both my own life and in the families I have the privilege of supporting, I see how much of that strength sits at the center of everything.

It’s thoughtful. It’s steady. And it has a lasting impact across generations.

To all the mothers who show up every day with care, patience, and intention... thank you. What you do matters more than is often said, and it does not go unnoticed.

Recently, I had the opportunity to hear from George Friedman, a geopolitical strategist whose work explores the long‑term cycles that shape nations and markets. One of his core observations, that the United States tends to go through periods of upheaval and renewal roughly every 50 years—has stayed with me.

It immediately connected to many of the conversations I’ve been having in client reviews.

When viewed through a historical lens, much of what we’re seeing today isn’t anomalous or unprecedented, it’s part of a recurring process of reinvention. Periods of tension, polarization, and disruption have often preceded meaningful structural renewal and long‑term progress.

That perspective doesn’t eliminate uncertainty, but it does help reframe it.

In investing and in leadership, understanding where we are in a cycle matters. It allows us to separate noise from signal, stay focused on fundamentals, and make decisions grounded in long‑term thinking rather than short‑term emotion.

History doesn’t repeat, but it often rhymes. And when we step back far enough, patterns begin to emerge.

Hearing Jon Montgomery share his journey offered a powerful counterpoint to the idea that success follows a predictable or early path.

What stood out wasn’t raw talent or early dominance, it was patience, exploration, and a willingness to grow into the right discipline at the right time.

Between his story and others we’ve heard recently, it’s clear that many elite performers don’t peak early. They evolve. They try things. They step away. They come back stronger, with perspective and intention.

There’s something reassuring in that. Whether in sport, leadership, or business, meaningful success often comes from staying open, reflective, and committed to development long before outcomes are obvious.

A reminder that progress doesn’t need to be rushed—and that clarity often arrives only after experience does.

I had the opportunity to spend the day with Third Factor, whose work focuses on coaching Olympic coaches—a highly specialized discipline when you’re supporting high‑performance teams operating under pressure.

What resonated most was how transferable this thinking is. At the highest levels, leadership isn’t just about performance—it’s about developing people, sustaining excellence, and supporting growth across different stages of experience.

It’s a reminder that this is also a critical part of our role as team leads: developing talent, supporting talent across multiple generations, and creating an environment where people can perform, adapt, and evolve over time.

Those same lessons extend directly to the entrepreneurial families we work with—particularly as they think about leadership within their own organizations, succession, and how to empower the next generation to lead with confidence and clarity.

High performance is rarely accidental. It’s built thoughtfully, over time, with intention.

This week's conversations have reinforced something I believe deeply: the strongest outcomes are created when advisory, corporate finance, and banking partners operate as one.

I had the opportunity to spend time with the Head of Commercial Banking in BC, discussing how we partner closely across disciplines to deliver a seamless, integrated client experience; particularly for business owners and family enterprises navigating complexity.

These conversations took place at the National Women’s Investment Advisor & Portfolio Manager Symposium, surrounded by thoughtful dialogue, shared insight, and a collective commitment to raising the standard of advice in our industry.

When collaboration is intentional and values‑aligned, clients feel the difference. And that’s where real value is created.

I recently had the opportunity to listen to Clara Hughes speak about overcoming profound challenges in the face of complete and utter defeat; and the discipline required to keep moving forward when the path is anything but clear.

Her story is a powerful reminder that resilience isn’t built in moments of success. It’s forged in uncertainty, self‑doubt, and the quiet decision to show up again when momentum is gone.

What resonated most was the clarity that comes from confronting struggle head‑on, and how those experiences shape stronger leaders, deeper empathy, and more grounded perspective over time.

An important reminder that enduring strength isn’t about avoiding failure: but about how we respond to it.

Private equity investing isn’t about headlines or brand names. It’s about disciplined capital, long‑term value creation, and gaining perspective where public markets can’t reach.

We recently hosted a private discussion for a select group of corporate finance and family office clients, bringing together senior private equity professionals from Partners Group, alongside the North American executive leadership of Breitling, a company in which Partners Group holds a controlling interest.

The conversation went well beyond performance. It focused on how private companies are acquired, scaled, governed, and positioned for durable growth—insight that is typically reserved for institutional investors and global family offices.

This is where private markets add real value: direct access to decision‑makers, transparency into how capital is deployed, and a deeper understanding of what drives long‑term outcomes inside exceptional private businesses.

At Fortin Wealth, our role is to curate that access thoughtfully: integrating private market opportunities where they enhance portfolios, align with values, and support generational wealth strategies.

Because when it comes to complex wealth, informed perspective—not noise—is what ultimately drives better decisions.

I recently had the opportunity to listen to the Rt. Honourable Jean Chrétien about global negotiation, trade, and how pivotal agreements are shaped; not in theory, but in practice.

What stood out most wasn’t the history lesson. It was the discipline of showing up every day, going into the office with intention, and continuing to lead with purpose well into later chapters of life.

The behind‑the‑scenes perspective brought real clarity on where focus, effort, and capital truly matter. But the unexpected takeaway was this: when you lead with a strong value system, it consistently guides the right decisions; and keeps you relevant, grounded, and energized over time.

A powerful reminder that purposeful leadership never goes out of style.

On the heels of International Women’s Day, I’m especially grateful for the truly unique support my fellow women advisors provide each other every day.

We lift one another up. We support each other through challenges. And, just as importantly, we make space for connection and joy: whether that’s sharing ideas at a conference in Vancouver or catching up between sessions in Toronto.

This sense of trust, encouragement, and shared experience is something I value deeply, and it’s a privilege to work alongside such an incredible group of women.
