You're approved for your mortgage. Congrats! But before you go furniture shopping or financing that new car, hold off.
Lenders pull your credit again right before closing. Any new credit applications or debt can change your approval status and put your purchase at risk.
The rule? Don't apply for ANY new credit between approval and closing day. That includes:
Car loans or leases
Store credit cards (even for a discount)
New credit cards
Lines of credit
Buy now, pay later services
Once you have your keys, then you can shop to your heart's content. But until then, keep your credit exactly as it was when you got approved.
