🚨 Buying a carbon monoxide alarm? Look for the mark!

Make sure you’re buying an alarm certified to Canadian safety standards. 🔎 Look for a recognized Canadian certification mark such as CSA, cUL, ULC or cETL.

Whether it’s a combination smoke/CO alarm with a strobe light, a battery-operated or interconnected combination smoke/CO alarm, or a plug-in CO alarm with battery backup — check before you buy.

In Ontario, as of January 1, 2026, CO alarms are required on every storey of a home and outside all sleeping areas if the home has a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace or attached garage—including storeys without bedrooms.

🔥 Look for the mark. It matters.

The XO Poppy 5000 mAH MagSafe Powerbank, available in various colours and prints, has been recalled – the lithium-ion battery may overheat and melt while charging, posing fire and burn hazards.

Stop using the affected power banks immediately and return them to any HomeSense, Winners, or Marshalls location for a refund.

Did you know that smoke alarms need to be replaced every 10 years?

Both battery-operated and hard-wired smoke alarms must be replaced at least every 10 years.

As smoke alarms age, their sensors can become less effective, reducing their ability to provide early warning in the event of a fire.

Take a moment to check the manufacture date on the back of your smoke alarm or look for the replacement date sticker on the side. If your smoke alarm is 10 years old—or if you can't determine its age—it's time to replace it.
