A great way to start the day when you read in your local newspaper that Manulife will be contributing $900,000 over the next three years to a new cardiac clinic at St. Mary’s Hospital, aimed at assisting patients who do not have a family doctor.

“The Prevention” clinic will operate out of St. Mary’s Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Clinic.

Our community is very lucky indeed to have St Mary’s specialized cardiac facility and core local companies, such as Manulife who care about the health and well-being of us all.

February is more than just one month closer to spring & summer – it is Heart & Stroke awareness month.

A quick tour around the Canadian Heart & Stroke website reminds us of the very real risks we all face:
1. 9 out of 10 Canadians have at least 1 risk factor for heart conditions, stroke or vascular cognitive impairment
2. roughly once every 5 minutes a Canadian will have a stroke
I realize that these are disturbing numbers, and my intent was not to scare you but rather to draw your attention to some Canadian statistics. We know that these conditions can happen - to the healthiest of us & the less than perfect, too – the difference is that we can take steps to protect ourselves from the financial impact in case one of these conditions does occur.

Please share this information as it is a great opportunity for a student who has lost a parent or guardian who did not have any or adequate life insurance.

I have had the opportunity to judge the applications over the years and the stories of applicants and their drive for further education is wonderful, even though they have all faced tremendous loss and difficult times.

“You do until you don’t”

When we are healthy and life is good, often we don’t see the need for insurance. The problem with this train of thought is that when something goes wrong we wish we had insurance to put our minds at ease, or we decide we need it but unfortunately then it is often unaffordable or unobtainable due to age or current health.

Risk Planning…… very important to preservation of wealth.

Parents, do you know…..

The Ontario government is offering parents $200 or $250 per child to help offset the cost of catching up in school after two years of disrupted learning. As a parent or guardian, you can use this one-time funding for things that best suit your child's needs like tutoring services, supplies and equipment.

Eligible applicants will receive a one-time payment of:

- $200 for each student between kindergarten and Grade 12, up to age 18
- $250 for each student with special education needs between kindergarten and Grade 12, up to age 21

The deadline to apply is March 31, 2023.
