In the words of Coco Chanel:

“Nature gives you the face you have at twenty. Life shapes the face you have at thirty. But at fifty you get the face you deserve.”

Our faces are more than just features in a mirror; they are reflections of who we are, how we perceive the world, and how the world perceives us. Every glance, every smile, every frown carries meaning, not just to those who see it, but to ourselves. And yet, too often, we overlook the power of this simple truth: the way we look outward is inseparable from how we look inward. Nature teaches us this lesson daily. The mountains stand tall, unbothered by who gazes upon them. Rivers flow with quiet confidence, carrying what they must, leaving the rest behind. Trees shed leaves without regret and bloom with hope each season. Like these elements of nature, our faces or expressions, are both mirrors and messages. They reveal not just our current state but the potential for growth, resilience, and transformation. Perception is a tricky companion. We often measure ourselves by how others see us, assuming their gaze defines our worth. Yet, the truth is far simpler and far more profound: our vision of ourselves shapes our reality far more than any external judgment ever could. Looking inward with honesty allows us to recognize our strengths, confront our fears, and embrace our imperfections. In doing so, we learn to present our authentic face to the world. Chanel shaped it up by saying nature gives you the face you have at twenty. Life shapes the face you have at thirty. But at fifty you get the face you deserve. That is grounded, courageous, and unshakably human. And yes, the future is uncertain. We may wonder how life will shape us, how the people we meet will perceive us, and whether we will be enough. But consider this: each face we encounter is also navigating its own journey of perception, self-reflection, and growth. The world is filled with individuals striving, faltering, and rising again. When I reflect on this, I find mostly that we meet it with an open heart and an unguarded face. We not only see others more clearly, we allow ourselves to be seen as we truly are. Vision, then, is more than sight. It is insight, awareness, and understanding. It is the ability to witness life without judgment and to face ourselves without fear. The faces we wear, the expressions we carry become a testimony to our courage, our compassion, and our willingness to embrace the full spectrum of life. So, pause today. Look in the mirror. Feel the contours of your face, the spark in your eyes, the set of your jaw. Recognize the journey etched into every line and shadow. Then, step out into the world with that face. The real one. Show it boldly. Let it speak of your story, your vision, and your limitless potential. Because the faces we wear are not just about how the world sees us. They are about how we choose to see ourselves. And once we master that perception, we can face the future with confidence, courage, and clarity while Keeping Life Current.

In the words of Brendon Burchard:

“First, it is an intention. Then a behaviour. Then a habit. Then a practice. Then a second nature. Then it is simply who you are.”

Intention is where everything begins. Before action, before movement, before even the clearest thought. There is intention. Burchard branded it as first, it is an intention. Then a behaviour. Then a habit. Then a practice. Then a second nature. Then it is simply who you are. It is subtle, often quiet, yet incredibly powerful. It shapes the direction of our lives in ways we don’t always immediately recognize. When you pause and truly examine your days, you’ll notice that every meaningful step forward started as a simple intention. Nature reflects this beautifully. A seed does not question its purpose; it grows toward the light because that is its intention. Rivers do not hesitate; they flow forward, carving paths through resistance because movement is their nature. There is no overthinking, no doubt, just a steady alignment between purpose and action. As humans, we often complicate this process. We think, analyze, hesitate, and sometimes lose sight of the very intention that could guide us forward. Thought, when aligned with intention, becomes a powerful force. But thought alone can also trap us. Overthinking can dilute purpose, turning clear intentions into confusion. This is why clarity matters. When your intention is rooted in something positive. Growth, contribution, and self-improvement. It simplifies your decisions. You no longer need to question every step. Your actions begin to follow naturally, like water finding its path downhill. Purpose is not always something grand or distant. It lives in small, consistent choices. Choosing to show up. Choosing to try again. Choosing to act despite uncertainty. These are all expressions of intention in motion. Movement, after all, is what transforms intention into reality. Without movement, intention remains a wish. With movement, it becomes progress. Intention is always personally present. For me upon reflection, there is also a quiet strength in positive intention. It does not ignore challenges or pretend everything is easy. Instead, it acknowledges difficulty and still chooses forward motion. A positive intention says, “I may not have everything figured out, but I will take the next step anyway.” That mindset alone can change the trajectory of a day, a week, or even a life. Repetition strengthens intention. When you return to it daily, whether through reflection, writing, or simply reminding yourself why you started, you reinforce your direction. It becomes easier to act, easier to move, and easier to stay grounded when obstacles appear. Over time, intention becomes less of a conscious effort and more of a natural state. You don’t need perfect clarity to begin. You only need a starting point. A single, honest intention is enough. From there, thought will organize itself, purpose will reveal itself, and movement will follow. Progress rarely comes from waiting for certainty; it comes from trusting your intention enough to take the next step. So ask yourself: what is guiding you right now? Not what others expect, not what fear suggests—but what you genuinely intend. When that intention is clear and positive, it becomes a quiet compass. And as long as you keep moving, even slowly, you are already on your way Keeping Life Current.

In the words of John Lubbock:

“Nature always seems trying to talk to us as if she had some great secret to tell. And so she has.”

There’s something powerful about stepping outside and letting nature become both your listener and your guide. In a world full of noise, constant notifications, endless conversations, and the pressure to always be on. We often forget the simple act of talking things out, even if no one is physically there to respond. Nature, in its quiet wisdom, offers a different kind of dialogue. When you speak your thoughts aloud while walking through trees or sitting by water, something shifts. Your voice becomes clearer, not because someone is correcting you, but because you are finally hearing yourself. The wind doesn’t interrupt. The birds don’t judge. The rustling leaves don’t rush you. They simply exist alongside you, creating a space where your ideas can unfold naturally. Listening, too, takes on a new meaning in nature. It’s not just about hearing sounds, it’s about tuning in. The rhythm of your breath. The cadence of your thoughts. The subtle cues that tell you when something feels right or when something needs to change. In that stillness, direction often reveals itself, not as a loud command, but as a quiet knowing. We often think clarity comes from doing more. More research, more planning, more talking with others. But sometimes clarity comes from doing less. From stepping away. From allowing your mind to wander without force. Nature has a way of organizing your thoughts without you even trying. Lubbock led us to say nature always seems trying to talk to us as if she had some great secret to tell. And so she has. Ideas begin to connect. Problems soften. What once felt overwhelming starts to feel manageable. If you’re feeling stuck, try this. Go outside and talk. Not in your head, out loud. Say what’s confusing you. Say what you want. Say what you’re afraid of. Then pause and listen. Not for an answer in words, but for a feeling. A sense of direction. It might come as a small shift, a new perspective, or even just a bit of calm. That’s enough. That’s movement. Focus doesn’t always come from tightening your grip. Sometimes it comes from loosening it. Nature teaches this effortlessly. Trees don’t force their growth, yet they rise. Rivers don’t rush their path, yet they carve through stone. The strong direction of rivers motivate me. It causes me to reflect on a lesson there about trust. Trusting that progress is happening, even when it feels slow. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you move forward. You just need to take one step, then another, guided by the quiet clarity that comes when you give yourself space to think, speak, and listen. So the next time your mind feels crowded, don’t search for louder answers. Go where things are quieter. Let nature hold your thoughts. Let your voice find its way. And trust that, in that simple exchange, you’re already closer to the direction you’ve been looking for Keeping Life Current.

Paddling and financial planning might seem like an unlikely pair at first, but the parallels are striking. At least that’s how my brain thinks. Both require intention, preparation, and a clear sense of direction. When you look closely, the lessons learned on the water can reshape how you approach your finances and your life as a whole. https://www.northernriverfinancial.ca/paddling-and-your-financial-plan/

In the words of Jean Craighead George:

“Ask nature questions, and you will get answers.”

Life is full of questions. Some are small and practical, like what to eat for breakfast, while others are profound, like which path will lead us to fulfillment. Yet, the secret to navigating these questions often lies not in rushing toward answers, but in learning to ask the right ones. I find that my process of reflection, of pausing to consider my direction, can illuminate the choices I face and help me align my actions with my deepest values. Nature has a unique way of teaching us this lesson. George gifted us with the thought to ask nature questions, and you will get answers. A tree does not force its branches to grow in a particular direction; it follows the rhythm of sunlight, the pull of gravity, and the flow of water in the soil. Likewise, the rivers carve their paths not through resistance but by flowing around obstacles, adjusting gradually yet persistently toward their destination. Observing these patterns encourages us to consider our own life choices carefully. Instead of forcing outcomes, we can seek a harmonious direction that aligns with our natural strengths, passions, and circumstances. Good questions are the compass in this process. “What truly matters to me?” “What brings me energy instead of draining it?” “Am I choosing this path because it resonates with my values or because it feels expected?” By asking questions like these, we open the door to insights that guide us toward meaningful decisions. Answers often come when we are willing to listen deeply to ourselves, to the world around us, and to the quiet voice of intuition. Consideration, both of ourselves and others, is equally vital. Life choices ripple outward, affecting not just our journey but the lives of those around us. When we pause to weigh the consequences of our actions, we cultivate empathy, wisdom, and integrity. Just as a gardener considers the balance of soil, water, and sunlight to nurture healthy growth, we must consider the balance in our decisions to nurture a fulfilling life. Direction is not always about speed; it’s about clarity. Sometimes the most courageous step is not rushing toward a goal, but standing still long enough to understand the terrain. Reflection, guided by nature’s subtle lessons, helps us realign when distractions, fears, or pressures threaten to pull us off course. In the end, the answers we seek are rarely handed to us in neat packages. They are discovered gradually, through mindful observation, thoughtful questioning, and deliberate choices. By embracing the rhythm of nature, asking the right questions, and acting with consideration, we can navigate life with confidence and purpose. Every decision becomes a step not just toward a goal, but toward becoming the person we are meant to be. Life is a journey, not a race. And in that journey, the beauty lies not only in reaching the destination but in learning to move with awareness, intention, and grace, and Keeping Life Current.
