Please be advised there will be an Alberta Registries service closure June 30th after 2:30 until July 2nd. This will be Province wide in preparation for the new Driver's licenses'... To renew and get a new driver's license you will need Proof of Citizenship and your Alberta Health Care card.

Important Notice:
Changes to driver's licenses are coming soon on July 2nd!

You will get a card with the citizenship marker and Alberta Health if you are a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
You will not have to come in, this will only affect first time driver licenses and renewals. You will need to bring your legal entitlement (Birth Certificate, Valid Canadian Passport, Permanent Resident Card, or Secure Status Card) & your Alberta Health Care card.

In preparation for these new cards we WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PROCESS DRIVER'S LICENSE OR IDENTIFICATION CARD SERVICES STARTING JUNE 28 TILL JULY 1ST.

We will also close early on June 30 because we cannot process ANY services from 3 p.m. until we reopen after the holiday, July 2nd.

This closure is unfortunately province-wide. If you need to renew your license or complete registration, you should visit any Alberta registries office before this happens.

Should be interesting…

Changes to Alberta driver’s licences and identification cards will provide stronger protection against identity fraud and counterfeiting, as well as a more convenient way to access services.

The new design will display a Canadian citizenship marker when applicable, as well as your personal health number for eligible Albertans.

Applications and renewals cannot be done online, and original legal entitlement documents and your paper health card or mobile health care card must be brought with you to a registry.

Examples of documents include:
• Canadian Birth Certificate
• Canadian Passport
• Permanent Resident Card
• Secure Certificate of Indian Status
• Canadian Citizenship Certificate
• NEXUS Cards and RAST/EXPRES Cards indicating Canadian citizenship

You do not need to be a Canadian citizen to obtain a driver’s licence or ID card.
