Clubroot has become an increasingly concerning topic as it spreads across Canada impacting many growers and threatening the profitability of Canola. This season it was found in our neighboring region of Newell. There are a few things you can do though to watch out for clubroot:

Check the entrances/ right side of the entrances to the field for the first signs of clubroot (see photo).
If found talk to the Canola Council as there are solutions such as grassing the area found to avoid further spread.
Remove dirt on equipment between farms and make sure contractors and visitors to your field do the same as this is VERY IMPORTANT.
Include a resistant variety of Canola for a few of the fields in your rotation.

We all spend a lot of time thinking about fields of Malt Barley but until recently the team at 2nd Opinion hasn't thought much about where the beer we drink comes from, have you?
After a talk by Tool Shed Brewing Company a local Calgary based craft beer company we decided to be a lot more conscientious about our beer purchases, to support our farmers and their malt barley! There are many different local beers around now and it is delicious, check out what your Barley tastes like!

Thank you very much 2nd Opinion for having me (Nicole) on your team for the year it has been an awesome experience! You guys have been great, I have enjoyed seeing the enormity of everything on this side of the world, meeting many great farmers and learning from you all!
This was taken on a day when it decided to pour down, but only on the field I was in, nowhere else.
