CRA - The Canada Revenue Agency discovered that hackers had obtained confidential data used by one of the country's largest tax preparation firms, H&R Block Canada. This is just one of the points CRA reported to the Parliament recently.
I am not going into the details why or how it happened; I would like to mention that these things will keep happening regardless of the security and protocols. We need to be vigilant to minimize this ourselves. Few steps we should be taking when it comes to sensitive websites like CRA, Banks and others carrying financial and health related data.
For example, we should not be using the same or simple guessable password for multiple accounts, also we need to keep changing the passwords very often, do not wait to hear if someone hacked the accounts, just change every 30 or 60 days, I know it is hard but better safe than sorry. There are many apps and software which help you to encrypt and organize passwords, that is one option, apple improved and launched a password app recently.
No system is foolproof, only we as a community need to pro-active to minimize this.
