The Nechako Waste Reduction Initiative would like to extend a big THANK YOU to our community for coming out last month and participating in our annual Community Clean-Up! πŸŒŽβ™»πŸŒ³

We had just over 150 citizens take the time to help clean up around town. We had a great barbecue afterward and fun drawing winners for our three prizes (look for more next year)! Our leftover food we happily donated to the local food bank and the returnable bottles and cans were donated to the family of Jay Raphael.

We would like to, once again, thank the following groups of people for their contributions:

- Integris Credit Union, for providing prizes and hosting our celebratory barbecue
- Vanderhoof Tim Hortons, for donating coffee, hot chocolate, and Timbits
- The District of Vanderhoof, for providing gloves and garbage bags, with which a clean up would be very difficult without
- The Vanderhoof RCMP detachment, for volunteering to flash their lights at the overpass, to help keep our garbage pickers safe
- Last, but never least, YOU: our wonderful Vanderhoof community, who always step up and help keep our community clean this time of year

We look forward to seeing you all again at our next clean-up event! 😁

🌎 24 hours to go until our annual Community Clean-Up begins! 😁

We are fortunate to have prizes available to our participants this year. Integris has donated one Pelican Sentinel 100X Angler Fishing Kayak and one Redline BMX to be won. The District of Vanderhoof has donated a FreeGarden Earth Composter as an additional prize! Thank you for your generous gifts!

How are the prizes won? For a chance to win, please come to Riverside Park at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 25, 2026 for the Community Clean-Up. Sign up, claim an area of town to clean, and you'll get a ticket into the prize draw. Grab your gear (which is provided) and clean your zone! Come back to the park at noon for a celebratory barbecue, at which point the prizes will be awarded by random draw.

We are excited to see you all there!

🌎 Our annual Community Clean-Up is NEXT WEEK! 😁

Come down to Riverside Park at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 25, 2026 to take part! Pick a route in the community to clean and we'll provide the garbage bags, recycling bags, and gloves for the task. Leave your collected garbage next to a community garbage bin or street corner (please bring recycling bags back to the park for collection). β™»

πŸŒπŸ§ƒπŸ© We will also be hosting a BBQ at noon, to celebrate all your hard work. And a new activity this year: Integris has kindly donated a kayak and bicycle to be won as prizes for participating in the clean-up! So be sure to sign-in, get your prize draw ticket, clean your route, come back for lunch, and we'll draw for prizes afterward! 🎁

We look forward to seeing you next Saturday!

Happy ! ♻️

The Nechako Waste Reduction Initiative is looking to add some new bike racks in the community. We would love your feedback as to the locations you feel would most benefit from having a rack; for instance, is there a park or business that would get more cyclists dropping by if they could safely lock their bike nearby? We would also like input on the designs of the racks! Some ideas we had are racks shaped like a sturgeon or goose. Please comment below with your ideas! πŸ˜€
