We believe in the power of creating supportive ecosystems that empower entrepreneurs through knowledge sharing, distribution of wealth, and genuine supportive partnerships.

McKinsey & Company shared a piece on how these ecosystems can be built to support black-owned businesses and break down the systemic barriers poc entrepreneurs face. This article analyses the current climate and offers interventions that address the black community’s insufficient access to capital, knowledge, and support. It is an informative read that will deepen your understanding of the systemic challenges that black entrepreneurs continue to face, and will continue to face, until we all actively commit to making widespread change.

Tandem has been a “work from home” team since long before the pandemic.. However, it does feel different when your teams are completely isolated due to COVID-19. As our world adapts, and working from home becomes the new norm (during the pandemic & beyond) we must acknowledge how this model impacts connections and the growth of inclusive cultures.

McKinsey has shared these seven simple practices to foster inclusion in remote teams…

Demonstrate vulnerability and empathy
Ask about people’s needs, acknowledge them, and tailor actions accordingly
Challenge personal assumptions, adopt a learning orientation, and seek to understand others’ experiences and personal style
Build space for diverse perspectives and encourage greater participation
Make time to structured remote team building and networking
Be intentional about mentoring and developing team members
Encourage team members to set individual inclusion commitments

They occupy industries and niches of the market most affected by the pandemic.

This research opens up the conversation about the intersection between systemic racism and small business survival throughout the pandemic.
