Canada has announced a new national food security strategy aimed at lowering grocery prices, supporting local food production, and improving access to fresh produce across the country.
The plan includes more than $3 billion in investments over 10 years, with funding directed toward food infrastructure, independent grocers, greenhouses, hydroponics, and support for small and medium sized food processors.
With grocery prices continuing to impact Canadian households and businesses, the strategy raises an important question: could strengthening local food systems help make food more affordable long term?
