Bank of Canada:

“While economic growth has come in stronger than expected, the pervasive uncertainty created by continuously changing U.S. tariff threats is restraining consumers’ spending intentions and businesses’ plans to hire and invest,” the central bank said in a statement alongside the decision.

“Against this background, and with inflation close to the 2 per cent target, Governing Council decided to reduce the policy rate by a further 25 basis points.”

Forward Guidance: Signals slower rate cutting pace moving forward

The Bank noted that it has “reduced the policy rate substantially since June” and that going forward it will be evaluating the need for further rate cuts “one decision at a time.”

We are sharing this to highlight a common misconception: receiving a rate hold does 𝐧𝐨𝐭 mean your rate and term are locked in. At , our practice is to hold 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐬 at the time of pre-approval—fixed and variable.. In a declining interest environment, we continue to work with our client to improve their rates and reassess our advice right up until the end.
