It’s tempting to use AI to shop for insurance the way you’d shop for a phone plan. Plug in your details, compare prices, pick the best rate.

But here's what most people don't realize: insurance pricing can be complicated, and AI draws from historical data. And when that data carries bias, even unintentional bias, the recommendations can too. For example, occupation-based pricing can indirectly create gender-based differences. Postal codes or marital status might unintentionally discriminate based on ethnicity or age.
