leləm̓ Community Centre is a 15,000 sq ft facility located in the University Endowment Lands.
The YMCA BC have been selected as the operator of the leləm̓ community Centre.

The facility is located in the heart of leləm̓ village, a 21 acre master planned community at the entrance to the University of British Columbia, developed by Musqueam Capital Corporation on Musqueam-owned land.

Today 547 families call leləm̓ home, with the community proposed to grow to 1,800 residential homes, including rental housing, townhouses and condominium apartments. Residents enjoy walkable urban amenities, eight acres of publicly accessible green space, and Musqueam art thoughtfully integrated throughout the community, reflecting connection to land, culture and story.

The future of leləm̓ YMCA Community Centre will be a welcoming place that supports health, well being and community connection for people of all ages and abilities at leləm̓ and as the community at large.

We look forward to opening later this year as this important community space comes to life. 🎉

Today, Musqueam is pleased to confirm that it has reached an agreement in principle to partner with Snuneymuxw First Nation in its recently announced purchase of River Rock Casino Resort from Great Canadian Entertainment.

“We thank Snuneymuxw First Nation for respecting our traditional territories and following our shared cultural protocols by approaching us about a partnership to acquire River Rock,” said Musqueam Chief Wayne Sparrow. “This is an example of Nations working together, not against each other, building economic prosperity for both our communities that will support more jobs and opportunities for our band members.”

Musqueam is a leading economic contributor within our traditional territory, and we continue to actively seek opportunities to diversify our investments. Musqueam owns the land that River Rock operates on, and the current lease with Musqueam expires in December 2041. Recently, Great Canadian Entertainment, the owner and operator of River Rock, has been accepting bids to purchase the business and gaming license.

Over the past nine months, Musqueam has explored different opportunities to acquire River Rock as part of Musqueam Capital Corporation’s (MCC) ongoing development and investment strategy. River Rock is a profitable and stable operating business and is one of BC’s leading casinos both for number of visitors and for revenue. In late September, Snuneymuxw Council approached Musqueam Council about their intention to acquire River Rock. This morning, Musqueam Council passed a motion to support the agreement in principle to partner with Snuneymuxw on the acquisition of River Rock.

“In the spirit of partnership and respect, we seek to move forward with our Musqueam relatives with one heart, and one mind. Together, we can advance a shared vision of economic strength and self-determination for both our Nations.” said Chief Michael Wyse, Xum’silum, Snuneymuxw First Nation.

“This acquisition reflects our Nation’s commitment to a sustainable and self-determined future — one where Snuneymuxw capital, leadership, and vision drive meaningful growth and prosperity. We extend our deep respect and gratitude to the Musqueam Nation as we move forward together in the spirit of collaboration and shared strength.” said Ian Simpson, Yaatqumtun, CEO, Petroglyph Development Group.

As the partnership details are finalized, Musqueam will be consulting with its band members, seeking feedback on the agreement. Chief Wayne Sparrow is available to comment on this exciting new partnership.

We are so proud to celebrate Musqueam Member and Elder Charlotte Mearns, who has received the City of Vancouver’s Award of Excellence in Truth & Reconciliation.

Charlotte played a guiding role in co-creating the design for the Langara YMCA redevelopment project, led by Musqueam Capital Corp. Her work reflects our values, our culture, and our ongoing commitment to creating a future where reconciliation is lived, not just spoken.

This recognition honours Charlotte’s wisdom and vision, as well as the partnerships that make projects like this possible. Our heartfelt thanks go to Mayor Ken Sim and the City of Vancouver for acknowledging this important journey of collaboration and respect.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - September 30

Each year on September 30, Canadians pause to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
This day is dedicated to the children who never returned home, and to the Survivors of residential schools, along with their families and communities. It asks all of us to confront a painful truth: the legacy of residential schools continues to echo across generations. Public commemoration is not only about remembering the past, but about carrying forward the responsibility of reconciliation.

This is not a holiday. It is a solemn day of reflection, led by Indigenous communities, to honour lives lost, to recognize Survivors, and to acknowledge the intergenerational harm that continues today.
The orange shirt has become a powerful symbol of this remembrance. It represents the culture, language, freedom, and self-worth that was taken from Indigenous children. It reminds us, with urgency and clarity, that Every Child Matters.

The Musqueam orange shirt carries a phrase that translates to All Children are
Important. These words affirm a truth that must guide us: every child holds sacred worth, and none should ever be forgotten.
On September 30, we encourage everyone across Canada to wear orange-not as an act of symbolism alone, but as a collective promise to honour Survivors, to remember the children who never returned, and to walk together in the spirit of truth and reconciliation.
