One overlooked bookkeeping detail can make your business appear more profitable than it really is.

A common example is prepaid expenses, such as annual insurance.

These costs should be recognized gradually over the period they relate to, not all at once or forgotten altogether.

If they’re not being recorded correctly, your financial reports may not accurately reflect the true cost of running your business.

Quick check:

• Review your Balance Sheet

• Look for a Prepaid Expense account

• Make sure those balances are being reduced over time
