“Amidst avalanche of complaints, it is rumoured that council meets in an emergency session to discuss clearing English Bay for Former Premier Gordon Campbell plus celebrity Moneytalks Host Michael Campbell and Real Estate Guy Ozzie Jurock much celebrated polar plunge.”
Yes, we are doing it again.
I don’t want to do the Plunge into the frigid waters of English Bay but at the same time, I can’t say no to helping Special Olympics and all the children and adults with intellectual disabilities like Down Syndrome, autism and Fragile X....
Although I haven’t forgotten how ice cold the water was last year.
But then I think there are times in life when you have to stand up and be counted. So, I’m in.
For years I’ve said that children and adults with intellectual disabilities are too often the forgotten people in our communities. But it’s more than that. At the best of times, too often people with intellectual disabilities live in isolation in our communities.
For most of the athletes Special Olympics provides the only connection to the community at large. It’s where they make friends. As one of our athletes said, "before I joined Special Olympics I didn't know there were other people like me."
It’s not often we can change people’s lives, bring such joy and help create friendships where none existed before but that’s exactly what happens with Special Olympics, which is why I’m asking for your help – and there are two ways.
Hopefully your circumstances allow you to help out with a donation to the Moneytalks Team for this year's plunge by going to www.moneytalksplunge.com .
Every donation over $25 gets a tax receipt straight to your email inbox.
The other way is to join me, Mike and Gordon and plunge into the icy waters of English Bay on Sunday March 8th at noon. (Doesn’t that make going to moneytalksplunge.com and making a donation sound a little easier given the alternative is to jump into English Bay.)
If you do want to join us and plunge simply email at [email protected] - and put “I’ll plunge” in the subject line and we’ll contact you. (Ozzie will also give you one of his books - as long as supplies last)
On behalf of all the sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and neighbours who have down syndrome, fragile X, autism and other intellectual disabilities - let me thank you in advance from the bottom of all our hearts for your continued support.
Your help sure makes it easier to jump into that cold water.
Sincerely,
Ozzie
