*** AMAZON ACCOUNT ALERT (NOT SPAM EMAIL) ***
I like to share my unfortunate experience and strongly advice everyone to remove any saved payment information on your amazon account or any e-commerce site.
Yesterday, I received 2 email order confirmation for 2 apple e-gift cards. One from .ca and one from .com. Both e-gift cards were emailed to [email protected]
So my account was hacked, even with 2-steps verification enabled!
When I checked my order history on amazon, I didn't see my orders at first. I then realized the orders were archived. I didn't even know you can archive your orders.
I chatted with amazon and he said since the gift cards are e-products and cannot be cancelled so they can't provide a refund. He gave me an apple support phone number to call. I asked should I contact my bank for refund and he said no, call the apple support.
I asked what can I do to prevent this from happening again? He said to enable Two-steps verification. I said I already have and I tried to login to the account. Sure enough, I received a code. He then said I will escalate this case and someone will contact me within 24 hours.
Of course after talking to the apple support, they were not able to give me a refund because I do not have the serial numbers or the activation codes for the gift cards.
This experience tells me that there is really no protection for consumers and it is up to each of us to protect ourselves.
In this case, do not choose convenience over security.
So I am now back to calling the bank.
Again, if you have payment info saved on amazon or any web site, I highly recommend to remove those information.
