June 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada! Today marks the 30th anniversary of this celebration and coincides with the summer solstice.

As an Indigenous-led and owned organization, our work is driven by a majority-Indigenous team backing an incredible portfolio of Indigenous entrepreneurs who are using their unique medicine to revitalize communities, innovate across industries, and reclaim self-determination.

Today, we celebrate our team, our portfolio partners, and the vibrant future of the Indigenous economy.

As we honor Juneteenth, the words of Fannie Lou Hamer remind us that true liberation is collective.

The Emancipation Proclamation took effect in 1863, yet enslavers in Galveston, Texas, withheld this news and evaded emancipation for 2.5 years. It wasn't until June 19, 1865, that emancipation was enforced across Texas, and over 250,000 enslaved African Americans were finally able to celebrate their freedom.

In 2021, after decades of grassroots activism, Juneteenth was officially established as a federal holiday.

161 years later, this day continues to serve as a reminder to celebrate, educate, and build a future grounded in equity and justice.

Sharing moments from our 2026 Founders' Retreat 🏔️

Earlier this month, we gathered together on Treaty 7 territory for our annual founders' retreat. A huge thank you to our guest speakers, keynote, and facilitator for sharing their expertise and wisdom with our group:

Mike Fata (Keynote)
Skawenniio Barnes from Finn Dixon & Herling
Monika Bear Robe and Deana Morton from
Colin (Workshop)

It was wonderful to bring together the Raven team and our portfolio founders to connect and share ideas. These moments of connection and learning are what make our ecosystem stronger.

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada. It's a time to honor heritage, amplify stories, and celebrate the diverse cultures of 600+ First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities in Canada.

It’s also an opportunity for all Canadians to actively participate in reconciliation by supporting their local Indigenous communities and businesses throughout this month and after.

On Memorial Day, we honor our fallen warriors who served in all major U.S. conflicts, including World Wars I and II, at a higher per capita rate than any other ethnic group. Warriors are seen as protectors of their land and people, a tradition that predates the United States.

We honor the service and sacrifice of Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian veterans who fought to protect the sovereignty of their people and their homeland.

Thank you to the Indigenous tech leaders and allies from across Turtle Island who joined us at the Indigenous Tech Web Summit evening gathering to connect, share, and build together as a community.

A heartfelt thank you to Chief Leanne Joe for opening the evening and setting the tone for a meaningful night.

This gathering would not have been possible without our incredible co-hosts, Devon Krainer, Eric Blesch and Ryan St. Germaine, and our partners: Indigenous Tech Circle, 7Gen AiO Tech Corp., Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP and TELUS, in partnership with Innovate BC.

Special thanks to Sundance Finley for catering, Heartberry Soda for keeping us refreshed all evening, and Georgie Lawson for capturing these moments on camera.

To everyone we connected with ahead of Web Summit Vancouver, we're grateful for you. Let's continue building the Indigenous tech ecosystem together!

Happy Mother’s Day! Today, we honor the strength, wisdom and nurturing spirit of our mothers, life-givers and maternal figures.

For many of us, the first word we speak is a call for our mother. To honor them, our team members are sharing the word for “mother” in their mother tongues:

aloo (Dakelh)
awaa (Haida)
eenaa’e (Koyukon)
je’e (Oʼodham)
mâmâ / maamaa (Métis)
nɔ’ɔ́ɔ́ɔ́h (Aaniiih)
nox̲ (Gitxsan)
tan (Tla’amin)

How do you say "mother" in your language? We'd love to learn and celebrate more Indigenous languages!

Red Dress Day is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+) across Turtle Island.

Indigenous women and girls are 6x more likely to be murdered than other groups (Statistics Canada, 2023). In the US, Native women face murder rates up to 10x the national average (NIJ, 2019).

The UN has consistently stated that these deaths and the lack of justice for victims clearly violate international and domestic law, and reflect the harmful effects of racism, colonization, misogyny, and homophobia.

❤️ Red is known to be the only color spirits see, so we wear red to honor their lives and call back the missing spirits of our women and girls.
