Ulnooweg is deeply saddened by the passing of cherished Elder Patsy Paul-Martin of Millbrook First Nation.

Elder Patsy was a respected Knowledge Keeper, educator, and fluent Mi’kmaw language speaker who dedicated her life to teaching, cultural revitalization, and community. Lovingly known as “Kiju” by many, she carried herself with warmth, strength, humour, and generosity, always welcoming others with open arms and kind words.

We were honoured to spend time with her sharing p~tewey and listening to her teachings. Her words continue to stay with us: “If you know where you come from, then you will know where you are going.” She reminded us that anything is possible when we remain grounded in who we are and where we come from.

Her legacy lives on through her family, community, language, and the many lives she touched along the way.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and to all who knew and loved her.

Wela’lin, Kiju Patsy, for your teachings, your strength, and your spirit. We shall remember you always.

Introducing Dwight Isaac, the artist behind the 2026 Ulnooweg Summer Solstice Run medals.

Originally from Listuguj, QC, Dwight is a L’nu artist and freelance designer and illustrator based in the Halifax region. His work reflects storytelling, culture, movement, and connection to the natural world.

For this year’s run, Dwight created medal designs inspired by Plamu the salmon, Mikjikj the turtle, and Kitpu the eagle. Together, the three medals represent the past, present, and future while drawing from teachings connected to land, water, and sky.

The medals were designed to reflect the spirit of the event and the journeys of the people who take part in it each year.

Follow along over the coming days to learn more about each medal and the stories behind them.

Wela’lin Dwight for sharing your work with this year’s run.
