And when the richest investor of all time takes the stage to talk about everything from the stock market to the state of the economy, you listen.

With much of the financial focus this week centering around the new Federal Budget, Wednesday’s announcement that the Bank of Canada will not increase interest rates at the moment might have flown a little under the radar.

While this announcement may not come as a surprise, what is worth noting, is speculation that a rise in rates could be on the horizon.

In my newsletter this week, I’ll be discussing a few things to keep in mind should an increase to interest rates come sooner than originally expected.

As housing prices continue to climb at an incredible pace, there’s been a lot of speculation about what measures the government might take in an effort to cool down an overheated market.

None, however, have grabbed the attention of Canadians more than the prospect of the government implementing a capital gains tax on primary residences, which as it stands now, is tax-free.

While this seems to be speculation more than anything else at this point, in my newsletter this week I’m going to share some of my professional thoughts and observations on this topic, as it doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon.

Tax season is upon us.

Unlike any other time of year, tax season is typically met with a lot of anxiety.

How much will I owe the government this year? Will I get the refund I’m anticipating? Do I have everything I need to get my taxes completed on time?

The truth of the matter is, we should be thinking about taxes throughout the year because taxes are intertwined with just about everything we do financially.

In my newsletter this week, I’m discussing four key areas of our personal finances to pay more attention to throughout the year, that will not only help put you at ease come April of each year, but will also leave you feeling a lot happier when you go to file your returns.

Most investors would agree that investing is no easy feat.

That said, it’s not always that complicated - at least it doesn’t have to be.

Unfortunately, it’s quite common for investors to get in their own way by over complicating the investment process, which makes the experience a lot more challenging than it needs to be.

In the spirit of simplicity, in my newsletter this week, I’m sharing four very simple, easy to remember, investing ideas or quotes that will help you manage your investing behavior and therefore help you better manage your investments and hopefully better your investment returns.

The RRSP deadline is fast approaching, but the decision to make a contribution isn’t always so simple.

Did I set enough aside in savings to make a contribution?

Should I make sure I don’t owe any additional taxes when it’s time to file come April?

Is it more convenient to invest my money in an account that isn’t fully taxable upon withdrawal?

These kinds of thoughts are quite common this time of year.

While important, in my newsletter this week I’m focusing on four questions you should ask yourself instead, prior to the March 1st contribution deadline, so that you can be confident that you arrived at the right decision to invest your money in your RRSP - or elsewhere.
