My 16-year old son and I took a walk through the neighbourhood last weekend, the latest instalment in our weekly series of ‘Let’s get away from our screens and talk about Important Things, while Mum tries not to trip over her own feet’. We see ourselves having some ground to cover to get there.” He also noted that the pandemic is posing a rising threat due to the rapid spread of the Delta variant, but, meh, it won’t have a major economic impact. We’ll keep trucking on, learning to live with it.

Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, reportedly the richest person on Earth, has stepped down this week as the company’s CEO and handed the reins to Andy Jassy, formerly Amazon’s Web Services CEO.
Mr. Bezos will retain the title of Executive Chairman, so presumably we won’t see paparazzi photos of him at Margaritaville with a giant inflatable parrot on his head (good news for those of us that like to frequent the place).
More on Mr. B’s post-CEO exploits in a moment. First, a little nostalgia.
Surely a car is the most expensive big-ticket item that consumers are willing to buy online, though – right?

Fast forward about 35 years and we started to read all about the death of bricks and mortar stores. Nobody was going to malls anymore, and why would they? We could order things online and have them delivered to us in ever-shortening time spans.
