As 2025 winds down, I’m reflecting on why I do what I do.

Insurance isn’t just paperwork — it’s protection, peace of mind, and a promise. Behind every policy is a person with dreams, fears, and people they love.

I once thought I’d become a doctor, but my empathy led me here: helping people protect their health, finances, and future through benefits that truly matter.

This year reminded me:
✔️ Most people don’t realize what their benefits cover
✔️ Employers want to help—but don’t always know how
✔️One conversation can change everything

As we step into 2026, my mission stays the same: make insurance less intimidating, more empowering, and deeply personal.

Because when life throws curveballs, the right coverage isn’t just helpful - it’s life changing.

🧾 Group Benefits + Estate Planning = Peace of Mind

Your group benefits protect your present. Your estate plan secures your future. Together, they create a safety net your family can count on.

Here’s what I wish more people knew:

💡 Beneficiary designations matter. Your will and your group life insurance need to match.

💡 Disability coverage helps, but a power of attorney fills the gap.

💡 Mental health support in your plan can help navigate emotional planning moments.

💡 Employers: a simple checklist or lunch & learn can empower your team.

Let’s make benefits meaningful. Let’s make planning personal.

🎃 You can be anyone, anything. Even a benefits bride with a bone to pick. 💀

Halloween reminds us that transformation is powerful. So are group benefits.

Behind every policy is a person, sometimes grieving, sometimes celebrating, always deserving of choice and dignity.

From porch pumpkins to policy protections, I’m here for it.

A real claim saved a family when a liver transplant required life‑saving drugs that OHIP did not cover. Drug maximums exist to control costs, but limits should never strip protection when the worst happens. At renewal, review lifetime drug caps, appeal procedures, and continuation-on-treatment clauses.

Fun Friday! Mom & Dad Jokes Meet Group Benefits 😄🧠💼

I tried to use my benefits for stress relief. They said yoga’s covered, but wine is not. Rude.

Turns out parenting + health benefits = comedy gold.

Here are a few more gems:

👟 “I submitted a claim for back pain. They asked if it was work-related. I said, ‘I’m a parent. Everything is.’”

🦷 “I thought HSA stood for ‘Help, Save Alanna!’ when I saw the orthodontist bill.”

🧱 “I thought therapy was covered. But not the kind you need after stepping on LEGO at 2 am.”

💡 Reminder: Your benefits might not cover parenting chaos, but they can help with real support when you need it.

🧠 Mental Health Day may have passed, but the conversation shouldn’t.

Did you know your group benefits might include a Mental Health Navigator?

Offered by carriers like Sun Life, Empire Life, and Canada Life, this service connects you with a case manager (often a nurse or social worker) who helps you:

✅ Understand your diagnosis

✅ Navigate treatment options

✅ Get referrals to psychologists, psychiatrists, and expert physicians

✅ Access care through platforms like Teladoc Health’s Best Doctors

✅ Receive confidential support at no extra cost

Mental health care can feel overwhelming. This service makes it easier to find the right help faster.

💬 If you’re not sure whether your plan includes it, ask your HR team or benefits provider. You might already have access and not even know it.

🧾 Poll Series:
What You Wish You Knew About Group Insurance

If you’ve ever flipped through your benefits booklet and felt overwhelmed or unsure you’re not alone.

Many plans include valuable coverage that goes unused. Not because it’s unhelpful, but because it’s buried in jargon or tucked away in the fine print.

Here are a few things I often help clients uncover:

🔍 Mental health services — psychologists, social workers, and therapists - often accessed through platforms like Mental Health Navigator.

🔍 Emergency dental coverage — sometimes available even if routine dental isn’t included.

🔍 Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) — confidential support for mental health, legal, financial, and family concerns.

🔍 Compounded medications & custom treatments — depending on your carrier.

🔍 Support for chronic conditions — including mobility aids and nutrition counseling.

🔍 Travel insurance & assistance — emergency medical coverage abroad, trip interruption support, and 24/7 help lines.

🔍 Virtual care platforms — like Teladoc or Maple for remote consultations, prescriptions, and follow-ups.

🔍 Non-emergency care expenses — specialist referrals, diagnostic tests, and preventive screenings.

🔍 Survivor benefits — financial support for a beneficiary if an employee passes away while covered.

Coverage varies by carrier, so it’s worth reviewing your specific plan or asking for a personalized breakdown.

Whether you’re an HR leader trying to communicate benefits more clearly or an employee wondering what’s available, I’m here to help decode the fine print.

💬 In future posts, I’ll share real examples and practical tips to help you make the most of your plan. Have a question or story to share? Drop it in the comments or message me directly.

If I do one thing right in this life, let it be showing my daughter that women are powerhouses. That we are strong, capable, and unstoppable.

She sees the late nights, the early mornings, the moments I push through exhaustion, and still show up. Not because I gave her a lecture on ambition—but because I live it.

Hard work creates results. And I hope she never doubts her ability to chase big dreams, lead with heart, and build the life she deserves.

Working moms aren’t just providing. We’re proving.
