The Bank of Canada held its overnight rate at 2.25% today; no change to Prime.

So, what does this mean for your mortgage?

👉 Variable rates: No change for now.
👉 Fixed rates: These are influenced more by the bond market and can move independently of the Bank of Canada.
👉 Buying, refinancing or renewing: Today’s decision doesn’t mean you should simply wait. There may be opportunities available right now depending on your situation.

📢 Bank of Canada Update

As expected, the Bank of Canada has held its overnight rate at 2.25%.

While there was no change today, the Bank acknowledged that Canada’s economy is improving and expects inflation to gradually return to its 2% target. At the same time, global uncertainty—including geopolitical tensions and trade policy—continues to influence the outlook.

Key takeaways:
✔️ No change to variable-rate mortgages or HELOCs.
✔️ Prime rate remains unchanged.
✔️ Fixed mortgage rates will continue to be driven primarily by bond market movements.
