Paul Polyviou CFP, CLU, CIM THE SIMPLE CHOICE FOR COMPLEX FINANCIAL MATTERS. Helping you achieve your goals - one step at a time. www.financialguardian.ca

Since 2003, I have defined personal financial planning as a process of determining an individual’s or family’s financial goals, purpose in life, and life’s priorities. After considering their resources, risk profile, and current lifestyle, a detailed and realistic plan is prepared to help meet those goals. My designations as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), and Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) reinforce my ability to provide ongoing comprehensive financial planning advice in the areas of investing, retirement, tax, insurance, and estate planning. By specializing in these, I am better positioned to assist my clients in achieving their financial objectives. My team and I strive to ensure excellent service is received by all clients and seek to educate and provide timely information on a consistent basis.

Buybacks - We are currently in peak earnings blackout, with just 24% of S&P 500 index weight outside repurchase blackout windows. That figure rises to ~55% by month-end, ~75% by November 3 (Midterm Election Day), and ~85% by November 9, as companies report earnings and trading windows reopen. As more companies are able to resume share buybacks, that additional demand could provide another source of support for the market.

Since 1950 when S&P 500 posts at least one new closing all-time high during October, the fourth quarter averages a 4.74% gain, compared to just 3.99% in all other years.

There are still unique advantages to these accounts, even after the advent of pension splitting.

Having a spousal RRSP isn't as popular as it once was before pension splitting was introduced in 2007, but it's still a worthy consideration.

Buybacks - Corporates are still largely in their Q3 earnings blackout, but the buyback window begins to reopen on October 15. From there, the corporate bid should build through earnings season and accelerate into November, historically the strongest month of the year for corporate buyback executions.
