On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour survivors, families and communities impacted by Canada’s residential school system and reflect on the responsibilities we all share in advancing reconciliation.

At OPTrust, we believe reconciliation requires ongoing learning and sustained action. We have been proud to partner with Indigenous organizations and communities through investments like Senáḵw and the Cascade Power Project in ways that support economic participation and self-determination.

This fall, we will take another step forward with the launch of our Reconciliation Action Plan, which will help guide our future efforts as we continue learning and building respectful relationships with First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples.

For the fifth consecutive year, we participated in the Pride Toronto Street Fair, connecting with the community, sharing the value of defined benefit pensions, and celebrating inclusion and belonging.

Earlier this month, OPTrust President and CEO Peter Lindley joined Board Vice‑Chair Ram Selvarajah, members of the Squamish Nation, and the broader community for a traditional blessing ceremony at the Sen̓áḵw housing development in Vancouver. The blessing of Tower 1 marked a meaningful milestone as the community prepares to welcome residents in the coming weeks.

“Being present for this deeply emotional ceremony was humbling and inspiring. Seeing the community come together to honour the ancestral and spiritual connection between people and place was a powerful reminder of what this development represents,” said Lindley. “I’m proud of the work OPTrust has done on Sen̓áḵw. This is a transformative development—supporting the long‑term retirement security of our members, strengthening the economic future of the Squamish Nation, and delivering much‑needed rental housing to the Vancouver region.”

Blessing new housing as a community is a long‑standing Squamish tradition, recognizing the bond between people and place. The new development is being built on ancestral lands returned to the Nation in 2003, after nearly a century of dispossession. The first phase of the development will be completed in 2026, adding over 1400 purpose-built rental housing units to the Vancouver region.

While we might have been a little distracted during our poses, it was a perfect opportunity to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy plenty of cuddles.

Moments like these remind us that supporting wellbeing at work is also about creating space to connect, recharge and find a bit of joy in the day.

Now in its 10th year, OPTrust’s Member-Driven Investing strategy keeps the Plan balanced through a unique application of a Total Portfolio Approach, built to weather changing economic and market conditions over the long term. The Plan’s 10-year average net investment return is 6.7 per cent.

Investment returns make up over 70 per cent of the benefits paid to OPTrust members when they retire, with over $1.4 billion in entitlements paid in 2025.

Today, we released our 2025 Funded Status Report – Service & Security – Since 1995 – which details our financial results and funded status, while celebrating our 30th anniversary. In 2025, OPTrust remained fully funded for the 17th consecutive year and achieved a net investment return of 4.2 per cent. Over the past 10 years, the Plan's average net investment return is 6.7 per cent.
