Ottawa has made some changes to mortgage rules to help first time buyers; including increasing the RRSP withdrawal amount without penalty to $60,000, and allowing high ratio mortgages (purchase price of property of less than $1 million with less than 20% down) for new home builds to be amortized for 30 years vs 25 years that will still be the maximum for existing builds.
