Behind every farm is a family and a business moving forward.

Our client is a multi-generational dairy farming family with decades of profitable operations in western Canada. When an opportunity arose to expand their operations, they pursued it – only to encounter significant market disruptions that put pressure on the broader business. Their core operation remained fundamentally strong throughout, but their existing lender relationships could not accommodate the time required for an orderly exit from the troubled venture.

This is where Glengarry stepped in. Glengarry provided a $16.8m bridge facility secured by a first mortgage on six quarter sections of irrigated farmland and dairy quota. The solution provided the family with the time and financial stability to maximize the value of their assets rather than liquidate under duress.

The plan was executed as intended. Sale proceeds were applied to reduce the principal balance of Glengarry’s loan, and the family successfully refinanced the remainder with a major Canadian credit union at maturity. A strong farming operation, preserved and positioned for the long term.
