COVID-19 has created a semi-permanent stage of uncertainty when it comes to the future of our economy. With the spike in COVID cases, Canadian banks have recalibrated the Quantitative Easing program (QE) which focuses on long term bonds. The QE program has a great impact on the borrowing rates for households and businesses that are essential to the economy's recovery. With the program and other factors such as employment, government programs, and other monetary stimulus policies, will Canada be able to achieve it's inflation goals by 2021?

The Bank of Canada today maintained its target for the overnight rate at the effective lower bound of ¼ percent, with the Bank Rate at ½ percent and the deposit rate at ¼ percent.
