Most people think about the repair bill. The bigger issue can be the chain reaction: a credit balance, another bill pushed back, and less room in next month’s cash flow.
An emergency fund does not need to cover everything to be useful. Even a partial buffer may reduce how much must be borrowed or postponed.
A practical first step: identify the expense most likely to disrupt your cash flow, estimate a realistic first target, and build toward it gradually.
