What Makes a Team more Effective?
This was the question asked by Google's People Operation team back in 2015; they interviewed 200+ employees and looked for over 250 attributes of 180+ active Google teams.
What is your first guess, talent + hard work...? most of us will think so, but it was actually quite opposite of that. As they say: "We were pretty confident that we'd find the perfect mix of individual traits and skills necessary for a stellar team -- take one Rhodes Scholar, two extroverts, one engineer who rocks at AngularJS, and a PhD. Voila. Dream team assembled, right?
We were dead wrong. **Who is on a team matters less than how the team members interact, structure their work, and view their contributions**. So much for that magical algorithm."
βThereβs no team without trust,β says Paul Santagata, Head of Industry at Google, and we say trust mainly comes from psychological safety. Do you agree with this? Leave your comments below!
